Ever nice to see a game which is not about Walmart style looting but about immersion and having a living world.
Some comparisons have already been made with Eschalon/Gothic/Harvest Moon and most importantly, Ultima. Those might be some pretty big shoes to fill for the development team but I know one thing for sure, they got all the right ideas. On a more personal note, I really love the graphics, a lot more then other indie RPGs out there.
Luckily the many years old race for better graphics comes to an end as graphics reached a point where there is not that much to improve anymore to have a real edge.
The huge companies hate that as they lost their simple no-brainer formula grahpics ueber alles ;)
This and the new financing tools like Kickstarter & Co are a big chance for the real game makers which don't have to answer to the shareholders and create games they stand fully behind and not get slashed during and after the creation process.
The sweatshop corps of course will never disappear. But Ia m glad that we have m ore choices again when games are made from gamers for gamers and not from some shareholders which just want to make a quick buck.
Like so many other games I saw on kickstarter does Balrum contain game elements which I thought lost for many years as everything was just about eyecandy and creating digital crack instead of an appealing game.
I really hope they make it :)
