Why are discussion threads filled with more 'idiots'?
2023 Update: This thread is from 2013, someone revived it. Everything written below this was the original post.

---------------------------------------------------

Anyone who came here from SPUF, have you noticed majority of discussion threads are filled with more idiots/children?

Is it really the no-sign-up process which attracts these users? Lets be honest the SPUF was of much higher quality in terms of educated responses.

Not saying there's none here, but there's sure less of it

I don;t think there's less higher quality posts. I think those who produce them are just drowned out more here.

These discussions being available right inside the Steam Client without having to sign up for another account, along with the badge requirement, sends a lot more people this way than SPUF has ever seen.

Oh, I have been to SPUF, although they have many features that are not in the Steam Client's forums (I often use the browser instead), even their (SPUF's) advanced search does not prove useful, after several attempts to find threads that had answers to my questions (waiting a minute between each search), only to come up empty handed EVERY search, I resorted back to these forums to find the threads that are on SPUF that I sought out. The irony that you cannot use these forums for certain criteria, yet at least here, one is directed where to find it on SPUF (even Google search proves more useful than that of SPUF's).

Filled with idiots. Soooo many idiots. The latest surges of idiot based content are the "Just here for the badge" and "Hi" threads.

And any time a topic has any such debate, whether it is positive or negative, instead of removing posts of those who do not follow the protocol of the guidelines, the entire thread is either locked or removed.

Exactly, it's like the mods don't get the difference between a debate and a flame war. Everyone could be perfectly civil, but at the slightest mention of politics or any sign of disagreement, someone reports the thread and the mods lock it.

Kind of sucks that one person could instigate something and get the entire thread locked

When the forums became integrated with the Steam application, more sillyness ensured. Console wars, MLP threads, argument threads about Steam, Origin, anything and everything already been posted reposted, repeated, repetition everywhere. For years the same threads from other forums have been seen here, burried by newbies.
Forum thread games. Roleplay, ban the one above you, start an endless word war...

"Hi I made a new Youtube account. Check it out", "Check out this website"

"NO!" (followed by a no chained response of Youtube video posts). Threads locked, people banned. People complaining they got banned or their posts deleted for a post that was supposedly innocent.

No you didn't read the forum rules. Nobody reads the damn rules...or really considers them all in their entirety. I've been there. I thought giving away a free game code without any trading or cost was acceptable...But it isn't.
A post meant to be funny and not offensive if one read the entire post. But it still counts as naughty.

Then the badgers came.
A loophole to make pontless threads just to earn a badge like a good little boy (or girl) scout. And not just in the off topic section.
They are so silly they have replaced the MLP threads. Next to no signs of that ever coming back now. Though the avatars remain.

And the "idiots" or "chidish" users compared to so called "adults"? I have not seen a single Steam user that did not give me the impression they are just childish people with nothing else to do in their bored "I'm not in the mood to game" time. Especially the ones that say they play games with their wife and kids. Or claim they are in their 20s, 30s etc.

This is a game forum. THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS ADULTS.

*Gasp* Uppcase. At least he didn't miss spell anything.

You kids. You lot doing your smileys, the emoticons.

Even Valve employers, employees are not adults. I mean sure they or some of them are adult size. But they are just big kids taking advantage of you little kids, adding this badge and trading cards with Steam levels thing. Oh and the emoticons.

And going out a bit into the real world away from the internet. There really aren't any adults. Everyone "grows up" and yet I just see big kids.

So stop taking the forums so seriously. This is a game forum (the off topic section) where crazy stuff happens. The forums that are based on games and game support. You know, that hobby you learn to play as a kid. So shuddup and go play something.

Oh yeah...The TL;DR posts. Why did I type all this when I know people can't pass a paragraph without giving up? Nobody wants to read all this crap. They, he, she, want an agreed or disagreed opinioned post.

Too late now. Gonna post it. [Post Comment]

For all those who will say, "TL;DR," this is worth reading! Thank you for my afternoon laughs! :D

I disagree. As long as you're going to have forums, you should at least allow meaningful discussion.

Besides, off-topic is off-topic, the topic being video games. Thus, the off-topic section is not neccessarily based on games or games support.

I did enjoy your post though

Steven Brattac Jul 16, 2013 @ 11:38am
im usually not feeding trolls i drop them trollshoes at theyr door.
But it seems you dont get it your right in one point its a gameforum and some people play there game with the people in the forum they tease till they have a crowd heated up and smile lookin what they great have acchieved and chuckle. Its a New Game how can i make the op lookin bad to the crowd. Stirring up senseless discussions we had thousandfold already. or feeling good when 2 others get into clinch with each other. its sometimes fun just to watch who posts this and who notasked answers back for someone else also not here lol.

At least those "For the Badge" or "Pie vs. Cats" threads are dying slowly.

The stupidity is being replaced with the random emoticon, because it totally doesn't make others think they are immature kids who can't control the urge to put it on. :tradingcard:

short version: forums which require you to register are better

forums which require you to pay monthly to post are the best

In case you are a 7 - 14 year old kid, don't be offended unless you are also an idiot.
