Is Voobly, Gameranger, or Tekkit Safe?
I noticed that my brother got a Minecraft mod pack called Tekkit and he said I should get it. I know that I have Minecraft as a non-Steam game, so I'm wondering if installing it would later get me VAC banned?

Also, more importantly, I figured that I wanted to try to play my Age of Empires II game online (it's not the HD version on Steam, it's an actual disk). I know that both Voobly and Gameranger offer servers for the game, but I know that Voobly installs a patch that makes it HD compatible and also compatible for mods. I don't know if the patch would somehow affect Steam, even if I put it as a non-Steam game, but I wasn't sure if some underhanded sleazeball at Voobly got a little jealous of Steam's popularity and wanted to make them suffer (a little over-the-top, I know). I just don't know if the patch it applies are safe, or if the "official" 2.0a and 1.0c patches are safe, either. I know Gameranger doesn't apply patches like that, but is that even safe? I just wanted to know so I don't get VAC banned for wanting to play AoE II online without having to buy it again on Steam. Thanks!
