Sudden strike series are all amazing.

Hidden Stroke 2 (Kinda like sudden strike)
Battle Realms (with the expansion)
the classic settlers =D
Quick fact about aoe 2 some new expansion got released for it (a mod) will be trying it, it looks promissing, also it got supported on GameRanger which is the haven of RTS games, aoe 2 has over 140 servers on it right now.

Planetary Annihilation.

It exceeded its kickstarter goal and looks amazing.
It looks good. My favorite RTS games: Traditional base building Starcraft, Command & Conquer, etc. Never gets old.
PS: Have you played World in Conflict? If not you can get the complete pack for cheap. Highly recommended.
However there are still a few left like:
Supreme Commander
RUSE
Earth 2160
Hegemony
Star Wars: Empire at War
Going back to the original point of the thread, check out 0 AD (play0ad.com). It's free, and draws a lot of inspiration from AOE2.
Not really, all the epic past rts's were made with passion and not to milk $$.
What matters isn't when the game was made but the quality of it.

There you go a couple good rts's.
Release date isn't 2013 but who cares?
Games are not garbage just cause they are not released/created in the current year.
I'm also a big fan of map-control RTS games like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War 2.
think you'll find the total war series to be RTS games, just because it mix's TBS with RTS dosen't mean it isn't either
