Where have all the good real time strategy games gone?
Short and simple... I can't find any RTS games that I like lately. If anyone has one they think they know of thats even semi decent and think I might not have it (good luck but try anyway to help me out!) drop its name. I don't consider dota 2 run offs and things like a valley without wind to be strategy games either... Yes I know they require strategy, but im talking the really old GOOD ol RTS games age of empires 2 dune 2, dawn of war, spellforce etc. If you read this and seriously think you know a RTS game thats a true gem fire away.... because until CoH 2 (hopefully) or Warhammer Total War and/or Rome 2. I'm looking pretty S.O.L here.

they just dont make em anymore sadly, coh2 might do it and well rome 2, but i miss as well games like aoe 2 (Aoe 2 being my all time fav) Why can't they remake rise of nations?

Sudden strike series are all amazing.
rise of nations (told already above :D)
Hidden Stroke 2 (Kinda like sudden strike)
Battle Realms (with the expansion)
the classic settlers =D

Quick fact about aoe 2 some new expansion got released for it (a mod) will be trying it, it looks promissing, also it got supported on GameRanger which is the haven of RTS games, aoe 2 has over 140 servers on it right now.

I'm waiting on CoH 2, Rome 2, Planetary Annihilation, and hoping the new F2P C&C coming out is good and not pay to win.

Planetary Annihilation.

It exceeded its kickstarter goal and looks amazing.

oh yeah planetary! that one, forgot about it, can't wait for it!

Oh there's the new SC2 coming out what next week was it?

It looks good. My favorite RTS games: Traditional base building Starcraft, Command & Conquer, etc. Never gets old.

PS: Have you played World in Conflict? If not you can get the complete pack for cheap. Highly recommended.

The genre doesn't generate enough sales and you can't play them on consoles very well. They even stopped developing Age of Empire Online. I wonder if Command and Conquer Generals 2 will be succesfull.

However there are still a few left like:
Supreme Commander
RUSE
Earth 2160
Hegemony
Star Wars: Empire at War

Try AI War, looks like a 4x game but it is a hardcore difficult RTS game.

@Tenclub: Uvatha may be wrong, but a lot of the games you listed to counter his argument are irrelevant--the genre in question is the RTS. Total War, Civ 5, and Football manager are not RTS games.
Going back to the original point of the thread, check out 0 AD (play0ad.com). It's free, and draws a lot of inspiration from AOE2.
They still make good rts games?

Not really, all the epic past rts's were made with passion and not to milk $$.

The question is what does it matter if it is brand spanking new.

What matters isn't when the game was made but the quality of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Keeper_2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacrifice_%28video_game%29

There you go a couple good rts's.
Release date isn't 2013 but who cares?

Games are not garbage just cause they are not released/created in the current year.

For your traditional base-building RTS game, try Starcraft II. The expansion is coming out next week.

I'm also a big fan of map-control RTS games like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War 2.

think you'll find the total war series to be RTS games, just because it mix's TBS with RTS dosen't mean it isn't either
