StarCraft 2 users beware, 14GB non-optional update
...even if you never plan on getting Heart of the Swarm.

NO kidding.

Severely limits all other connection (does not play well with other connections), causes lag in-game and you have no choice at all. You fire up the game online, you are HIT.

If you have bandwidth limits, say goodbye to StarCraft 2. If you don't notice what's happening, be prepared for a LOT of extra charges on your ISP bill...

WTF was Blizzard thinking?

Odd choice...however I somehow feel it was to be expected with Blizzard's policy of making the game completely ready for you for launch (only to smash you in the face with log-in errors xD )

With disregard to bandwidth limits, other connections and most of all, CHOICE of when to DL it?

Not a smart move, in my opinion.

I agree. And they are going to get a lot of heat because of it. Hopefully they will learn from it (and I think they will) and not do this again.

My biggest issue is that it totally saturates both up and down bandwidth and does not want to give any up.

I can be DLing Steam updates on three computers while streaming Netflix on two and playing games on the third without issue.

This SC2 update brings everything else back to nearly v.90 speeds. Nothing else works worth a damn while this is downloading..

I haven't launched SC2 after the update yet, but there has to be some way to control how much goes down and up?

Thanks for the Heads Up. I have limited bandwith and was (still am ?) about to pick up Star Craft II when it goes on sale (futureshop) this friday. At least now, if I do, I'll know what I'm in for.

If you disable the peer to peer option in the blizzard downloader, it should stop crippling your internet speed like that

Thanks but that only helped slightly. That downloader does like to play nicely with my network.

It's actually my step-sons game, I never saw the downloader before today.

Of course they could just ask if you want that update. If you answer no, they limit your game to offline games only.

Or... I wish people just could start voting with their wallets. Those download limits are bad for everyone.
