The 4th Wave is Here
I am your guide to the music underground and wanted to introduce people to the 4th wave of black metal emerging mainly from the North Americas and France. Now before you think "oh boy, not this music". Forget everything that you know about black metal. 3rd wave black metal stuff like the mainstream band Dimmu Borgir or other bands like Averse Sefira, Borknagar and Watain. Some of these bands were merely an extension of 2nd wave black metal and keeps the sound raw and brutal while others use more theatrical products like orchestras and over the top production value in sound.

4th wave is a different breed of black metal that trickles into other sub genres that black metal has never explored. We thank pioneers like Alcest (blackened shoegaze), Wolves in the Throne Room (post black metal/cascadian black metal) and Shining (depressive/suicidal black metal) that introduce us to new territories.

Lyrical content has changed dramaticly as these bands sing about life struggles, emotions, nature, the urban city lifestyles and loneliness. Music wise it has also changed to the depressive/suicidal bands that lean towards a darker sound with screeching torture-like vocals unlike normal black metal and took it a step further to the extreme. While post black metal and blackened shoegaze bands have incorporated post punk/shoegaze like influence in music. Some bands barely even border on metal, but that is also a good thing as some bands lean closer to post punk bands like Joy Division and New Order. Some of these bands don't even have vocals and focus on the ambient sounds around them giving a new level of atmosphere.

This is the 4th wave. I just want people to listen. Enjoy:

while i'm not a huge fan of instrumentals, it wasn't that bad

I was familiar with the first band, the other two are new to me though... not bad
it's an aquired taste, I don't expect everybody to like it, especially Suicidal/Depressive black metal.

i came across this like 10 years later. Current new bands for BM suck and the dsbm scene is full of poser bands with all the same name, i doubt we will ever have a 2000s boom of good bands unless we get recession again

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
