Sure, it doesn't look too great nowadays, but the graphics were just about par for its day. The NPC interactions and storytelling was what really elevated HL above its contemporaries. Its modability gave rise to Counter-Strike and dozens of other games. Not just mods - actual games that were sold at retail. Take a second and try to find a complete list of how many awards Half-Life has won. It's a long list. And it sold an average of one million units per year for at least five years after its release, not even counting digital sales or other platforms.

Most certainly Half-Life I honestly don't think that Valve will ever make something as good as Half-Life again. It's kind of like those in every generation of kind of game, in some cases I would even suggest that it paved the way for some of the current games we have out today from other devs.

I'd have to say the first Half-Life. It's a fantastic game that has a ton of memorable action sequences and was quite challenging. I also spent many upon many hours playing it when I was younger. Second I'd have to say is a tie between Portal and Counter Strike Source. CS: Source was my first Counter Strike game (I REALLY wish I didn't forget the info to my old as the hills account) and I had a tone of fun playing it, but Portal was such a different game and I just loved every minute of playing it.

Graphics vvere right on par for its age, and back then it vvas pretty damn amazing.
You cant even COMPARE any valve game to HL. If it vvasnt for HL1, VVe vvouldnt even have VALVE at all!!! You cant even try to compare HL1 to any other valve game. End of discussion.

Half-Life. Hands down.

It was the first FPS that I played until the end, and I loved every second of it. I'd feel inclined to add the rest of the franchise as well, since they're such masterpieces; including both Portal games. I usually replay all of them two or three times a year.

I was going to say counter strike then realized counter strike wasn't made by valve originally as it was a mod for half-life.

So I would say half-life, because it was one of the games that got me into PC gaming.

Everyone at Valve hates the number three. Episode three therefore never made it past the planning stages. After abandoning episode three they began working on Half Life Three, but realized after a few months that it also hat three in the title and halted development. They began to work on a Left for Dead prequel (NO THREE THIS TIME) but gave up after realizing it was a bad idea. Now they make Team Fortress 2 hats all day.

Every game in the Half life series if you include the Portal games. They are all so good I can not decide! Thank you Valve for making such excellent games.
I don't care about graphics but what I do care about is gameplay, and if I had to pick one to rate, it would be Half Life 1

9/10 gameplay
9/10 creativity
8/10 story
9/10 interactabiity
9/10 replay value
10/10 awesomeness
