Feeling useless after gaming all day
It's saturday and I've nothing important to do. I've already been playing for five hours today and this feeling uselessness creeps up my spine. It's like nothing has a purpose. There should be more than playing games in my free time.

Playing games is how i often reward myself after I learned for a test or something like that. But with it not being a reward. I feel like a piece of trash playing the game because it feels like a waste of time. Time that could be used to do things that will help me in the future.

This makes me quite sad.

Can anyone relate to this?

Don't worry, I think a lot of people around here can probably relate at some point. Myself included.

You spend all afternoon playing a game... and since you have nothing going on really, you realize that you're probably going to spend all night playing one too. If you're having fun, I guess it's not really a bad thing. That's kind of the point of life... to enjoy it, you know? If you aren't having fun anymore, then maybe it's time to put it down for a little bit.

I'm not sure where you live, but I've found taking a long walk is nice when I'm feeling down. Bring the MP3 player with me and just listen to music for an hour or two. Walk down a street you never have before, go to a park and follow some random trails (just be careful of course). Maybe invite a friend to come with. It's good exercise too.

It's the little things, man. We're all just little pieces in a huge puzzle. There are hundreds of thousands of people that will lead simple, happy lives. Going to work, coming home, playing some games, watching some TV, watch sports, spending time with family and friends. Rinse and repeat. If that hum-drum life isn't for you, the world is your oyster, just gotta get up and do it.

But the important thing is to just be happy, whatever it is you do. :) Simple, complicated, important, unimportant. Life is too short to worry.

EDIT: If you're anything like me, you probably think everyone is out there living it up while you're holed up playing video games. Coming from experience, most people are remarkably boring lol. So don't overthink it. :)

Thanks, the idea that other people are just as boring on saturday afternoons as I am is kind of a relief.
And I think I'll take a walk today.

Hey, a walk worked for me when I felt that way! I'm sure many others could say the same.

I saw that on a billboard in front of a church near where I live. Sans the bunny.

Probably the one time I've agreed with a church billboard, except for "God Sends Kneemail". Because, you know, I'm good at contributing to conversations.

I game to have fun and forget about reality for awhile. If you don't enjoy gaming then don't do it. Find something you do like and do it!

Isn't it like that for hobbies?

I think the problem is that gaming isn't particularly stimulating creatively (with a few exceptions)... so it's easy to get stuck into a rut of not feeling particularly productive when doing it. Especially if you spend a lot of time doing it.

That said, hobbies are hobbies. A lot of hobbies aren't necessarily "productive", it's unreasonable to think everything you do is. They are just meant to be enjoyed. If they aren't enjoyable anymore though, like I said, maybe it's time to put it down for a little bit.

Don't be so quick to judge, just because someone disagrees. The guy has a point, albeit very poorly spoken. If you in fact feel like you're wasting your time, you should be asking yourself: why then, are you doing it?
Sure, you enjoy gaming but maybe you should consider trying other hobbies too. Drawing or writing are two very cheap options.
Or are you just thinking this way because society claims that it is? Playing games is not a waste of time, as long as the game you're playing let's you think and interact instead of running to a dot for hours upon hours. Because the latter will do nothing but empty and neutralise your brain.
But a game that forces you to think and interact will tease the consciousness. And that is more than what can be spoken of for the drunken society of today ^^

Agreed

The question is are you happy playing games when you are playing them and happy with your life outside of playing games too? which ever is making you unhappy is where you should be re-evaluating
