Console Vs PC
I'm interested to hear logical debate: Console Vs PC. I'm sure each has it's strengths.

No flaming, trolling or emotional appeals please; Only logic, stats, numbers and personal experiences. I want to see the strengths and weakness of each platform debated.

I'll start it off:

PC

I'm a PC user. I game on PC and not consoles because I enjoy the higher level of freedom PC users can experience, the larger available catalogue of games, the ability to upgrade my PC, backwards compatibility for my games (IE I got GTA original from Steam's GTA pack and it still runs) and the capability to use programs not related to gaming.

I also believe that since you can spend more $ on a PC than a console you can get a much higher performance PC and also that since consoles are tied to remain the same until the next gen that a few years after launch you can get a nicer PC for the same $, IE right now something based on a AMD APU beats Xbox360 and PS3 consoles in performance for equal price at least in my opinion and by the hardware stats, may or may not in terms of optimization.

The final reason I like my PC is that there is much more competition in terms of games and because of that you can get better prices, sales, old games that are still great but wouldn't work on console, indie games and more. You can buy from more distributors and thus enjoy the financial benefit of not buying from a monopoly.

Also you don't lose your investment in games when the next-gen hardware rolls in.

VS

Console

I don't have one so am not the greatest opinion on them. I think that consoles do have a really good niche for the casual gamer who buys one within a year of launch and hopes to buy less than 10-30 (depending if bought new, used or on sale/old) games over the next few years. This is because the hardware is cheap and capable but the games are more expensive and maybe lower quality.

I'd personally sterotype the console as a piece of furniture for:
The weekend gamer;
The person who doesn't want to or doesn't know how to build their own PC with TV hookup;
The guys who wouldn't use more than 10 or in extreme cases 50 games;
The super rich people with not enough common sense to get a hardcore gaming PC and order entire publisher catalogs at bulk discount;
The other people who use consoles and don't fit a sterotype, which is probably most of them.

These days it's not even about being able to hook up to TV, my PC can do that if I had one.

Summary:

So to me console = casual toy, PC = more serious toy because the cost of hardware is worth it when you factor in the discount you'd get on games, at least if you are buying by the 50's or 100's via download instead of like 10-30 on discs.

Post your own debates of Consoles vs PCs or argue points.

Boom! Alienware is overrated and overpriced. Any PC gamer will tell you that.

PC, watching my dad play the same game as me on his ps3 compared to my PC, the PC wins every time especially graphics wise. MASSIVE EXAMPLE, The last tomb raider game has been released as a definitive version for PS4 and Xbox1, basiically the same version that was released for PC, with tressfx hair. Basically the new consoles can now do what the PC could manage nearly a year ago.

Any ideas on good mid range gaming pc's, like what makes/models are good these days? Hav'nt bought a pc in years so struggling a bit to find what's best. Looking at the prices I can clearly see Alienware charges more for the eye candy than anything else.

I used to be a X-Box 360 gamer, but since really getting into P.C.'s and recently building my own Rig, the 360 has not seen the light of day since to be honest,
For me i would defo say that P.C. is the better way to go, easy to upgarde and really can be a lot more powerful than consoles and cheaper long term too IMO...

This is kind of off topic but hey it's a huge thread. Building your own is the best.

Here are my saved builds, most are current (as of date of posting and may be updated) but some might not be.

As you can see the first one "Gamebox" is a PC with similar price and technical specifications to a new console. Maybe better in some areas and worse in others but it's close enough. Of course it does lack all the software and services though so if that's your thing go for console. I personally like PC better for the cheaper games, online experience, other features, generational compatibility, freedom, larger HDDs, upgradeability and so much more.

So I'd personally still choose a PC like my "Gamebox" console replacement PC over a console any day. Only way I'd get a console is if I had a really nice solid gaming rig and was a lot richer than I am today with a bigger house, horses, orchards, a pool, big screen TVs, all the other things I want and money to burn. Then sure I'd go for console & PC.

One or the other though I'd take PC any day. Probably even a PC that was worse than the newest consoles but definetly any PC with similar price & specs like this one:

"Gamebox" budget PS4/XB1 console replacement PC.
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Rove/saved/2Ppb
Base Total: $491.92
Combo Discounts: -$13.00
Mail-in Rebates: -$40.00
Total: $438.92 at time of posting, beware I often edit and prices often change.

Of course if I could afford it I'd buy a PC even nicer than console. That's what happened for me a few years ago and even about 2 years later it's nicer than the new consoles.
