My favorite anime atm are
#1 clannad/clannad after story
#2 Code: geass
#3 Angel beats

I dont read much manga so i guess i would have to say my favorite is
Dark hunters: Infinity
Its a manga adaptation of the book Chronicles of nick: Infinity (The first book in a series of 4 ATM) its not as in depth as the book so i would say read that first.

I personally favor SAO (Sword Art Online).

However I've been into Shingeki no Kyojin. The anime is about a different world where mankind is battling a losing war against Giants. Mankind built a huge castle country trying to keep the Giants out. Only to have the Giants bust right in and eat people.

I also still recommend Btooom! to people. It's a good survival anime which is based on a fictional online game.

Something that is somewhat new is Kagerou Days.

You can find it on Mangafox if you want to look into it, it's made by a Nico Nico composer who's made an album about the series. It's to be made into an anime soon.

Ergo Proxy - Psychological Themes, Post-Apocalyptic, Sci-Fi. Main characters are kinda weak, unfortunately, but it's a great show, overall.

Trinity Blood - Vampires, Nice Aesthetics, Sci-Fi. Episode structure may seem a bit too cookie-cutterish at times.
