Rift lite to Rift the FTP. (FTP ERA is here!)
It is official. I knew since last year Rift was doomed because all MMOs are dooomed ever since the FTP trend kicked in. Sub to a P2P is like wearing a fanny pack. True gamers go FTP. (everyone else are nongamers or old like WoW.)

Rift is the latest victim trying to win back ground since TERA went FTP & SOE is kicking it up another notch by hosting a new game that prolly will go public 2014 (a game hosted by them guys who made Runes of Magic.) Rift is going full blown FTP June 12.

I'm telling you the only pay games that will survive this onslaught might be the pay once to play forever games. This is the era of FTP.

It makes sense why this is happening. People can pirate games now. Not that it works on MMO's, but people pirate offline games, and play those instead of MMO's. Because of this, MMO's had to become F2P to keep their playerbase. Not that them going F2P is nessisarily going a bad thing, but it can quickly and easily devastate the community.
World of Warcraft seems to be doing just fine.

Piracy won't have caused this to happen. People drifted to F2P games as they started appearing and most MMOs don't have enough compelling content to keep them paying month after month to play it. People play through the main quest line quickly, maybe max out their character if they like then get bored and move onto other things.

F2P came along with a few high quality games that are updated frequently with new content and the ability to pay for certain items if you want and took a huge chunk of the MMO playerbase.

Well no, piracy may not have caused it, but I'm sure it at least had an affect.
You know they alrteady made a topic about this right? Maybe you should use the search tool.

It isn't, it lost 14% of its player base between January and March according to some reports.

I put full blame on TESO for this xD

It could be the beta for Dragon's Prophet or EQ Next. Both supposedly hosted by SOE. I know alot of players are looking forward to EQ Next however, DP is gaining a good reputation at least right now and alot of players have decided to make DP their only MMO.
