well, the energy sword(i am assuming you mean the one from Halo) is made up of Plasma that is held in place by a magnetic field ( the covenant use a lot of Magnetic fields) so it burns through everything, including spartans and Elites armours.

The lightsaber i a focused beam of energy that essentially does the same as an energy sword, so they are more or less equal
