This is why it WILL affect them.
Assassins Creed 3 sold over 12 million units. Gamers are telling them to keep releasing them every year rather than the other way around
like it or not they keep selling and are incedibly successful
First of all, VGChartz[www.vgchartz.com] says it only sold 9.48 million copies. The same source says they sold 10.76 million copies of AC2. These are not factoring in digital sales.
According to that source, sales have diminished over the course of the annualized release schedule's implementation. So in effect gamers ARE telling them they don't want that schedule.
They just haven't done it in a high enough volume yet.
The solution to your issue with Ubisoft has a simple solution, just vote with your wallet.
The only beef I have with annual releases is that it makes the series incredibly difficult to get into. Thankfully I grabbed 1, 2 and Brotherhood for $5 a pop last sale...
If you always wait until they hit the $5 mark before buying them, are they still considered annual releases? Lol! Either way... it'll save me a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money and I'll get to enjoy the games at my own pace. ;-]
I'm simply doing what Ubisoft wanted.
VGChartz is notoriously unreliable and as you say it doesn't include digital sales which increase year on year
This article quotes direct data from Ubisoft that says that over 12 million copies were shipped

Sales are certainly not dropping at all yet
