I usually use the d-pad for forward backward and strifing. the left trigger for jump and the left button for duck. the buttons in the center just right of the d-pad is usually reload and health pack. I use the left stick y axis for the use key and inventory. unless a game has lean the left sticks x axis is usually unmapped (unless a game has an excess of buttons to map). I usually use one of the right stick y axis for change ammo and any menu other than inventory that maybe relevant to the game. The a,b,x, y, right trigger and right button buttons are usually mapped to weapons or items I dont generally rely on in the heat of battle or other menus relevant to the game.
There are four buttons on the right side of my mouse I like to map to sprint, melee, primary and secondary weapons. Three more buttons on top next to the left mouse button are often things like throw grenade, toggle fire mode and sniper rifle or rocket launcher or any fun weapon choice that I end up using alot.
I didn't feel like correcting this discrepancy when I'm plenty skilled enough with the controller to do without.
What do you mean? It's actually a pretty novel thread in my opinion. The OP wants to know whether anyone uses both the left side of their controller for 3d movement and their mouse for aiming in a game simultaneously.
Not many people go for that combo; it's like using a mouse for direction movement. Not really common.
If you assumed the thread was about K/M vs Controller, well then you apparently didn't read the OP before posting.
Good post by the way. I've just been thinking is anyone else trying this setup.
As for the standard setups I like both, some games suit K+B better while some suit a gamepad better. Good thing about PCs is you can use whichever - or both, in this case.
Edit: Actually I did attempt this once playing Guild Wars 2 after my keyboard stopped working but for an MMO like that, without one of those MMO mice, I couldn't possibly have had nearly enough buttons...
