Salamander is right, the 2005 movie.
"landmine goes click" (2015) DO NOT READ SYNOPSIS, IT WILL SPOIL ENTIRE FILM!
at the risk of making my own country look bad (it takes place in my country), this is a very disturbing horror/thriller film that relies more on human sadism and depravity, than anything else such as gore.
you know that feeling you are having, the tight chest anxiety that is produced when you are awaiting important test results, or some such? this entire film gave me that feeling, throughout the whole runtime.
Oh man I saw this last year! That last act! Like I was kinda rooting for the guy to finally get even but then the last 10 mins is like Oh Noooo! That's a messed up movie, but in a good way I guess? idk, but I remember it stuck with me for a few days after. Definitely anxiety inducing, that's a good recommendation.
ahhh damn! i am glad you liked it though. yes, very very disturbing film. i was rooting for him too in the last act, but as always, the revenge is taken too far. after exposing ilya to his family, revealing the horrible things he had done and making him confess. this was all, he should have left. but instead, ilyas innocent wife and child suffered as well because of the protagonists need for revenge.
agreed. the ending "stuck with me" as well for quite some time afterwards. revenge is truly hollow
i am bizarrely happy, that such a disturbing horror film was filmed in my country lol. as a horror enthusiast
In the previous century, when I was a teenager, I've watched "Children of the Corn" series (first 3 parts of it) and "Hellraiser" series (also first 3 parts of it). Now I visited Wikipedia and learned that, through all these years, they made ~10 movies in each of these franchises. Should I watch them now or are they trash?
i thought i'd be novel and recommend Taxidermia, but salamander was way ahead of me, i see. that movie was the best random netflix choice ever, for me.
Yeah, agreed. He should've just left after forcing the confession. But yeah ig revenge isn't worth it was probably the message they where going for.
Off topic, but are there any other sorta revenge movies where the revenge goes wrong/too far? I did a quick search and for revenge movies and stuff like the Revenant, Hard Candy, John Wick, Man of Fire, etc. came up, but in these movies everything works out OK for the lead/good guy in the end, relatively speaking. I'm having a hard time thinking of movies where it doesn't like Landmine Goes Click.
I love Joe Mantegna's character in this! Also, this movie fits my question above, haha.
though this is somewhat being a spoiler i suppose. i can think of a few horror/thrillers i have seen where the revenge is going "too far"

it is a disturbing premise for sure. a desire for revenge, but never knowing when enough is enough
the first hellraiser (1987) is still being a fantastic horror film to me, personally. it is gory, disgusting, has fantastic special effects and much "different" from other slashers that were being produced at the time. to even really call it a slasher would be incorrect, to me. clive barker is possessing a great, twisted mind
if im being completely honest about most of the other hellrasier films though... no, i dont really recommend any of the others. they are ranging from "fine" to "garbage", but none are really being standouts to me. hellraiser 2 probably being the best of them.
the only exception to this is hellraiser 2022 (the newest) which i would consider good, just not great. it is probably being the most "faithful" to the original, compared to the endless crappy sequels that followed it.
as for children of the corn...i dont particularly like the series. it was never being one of my favourite stephen king stories. but the first film (1984) i would say is worth a watch, for the silly camp. others? nah, skip them.
VHS 1 or 2
The early Chucky films
Amityville Horror
The Omen
The Exorcist
love rec. one of my favourite found footage style horror films. the feelings of claustrophobia, panic, chaos, and hopelessness are all superb. rec 2 is...eh, its okay. i actually like how the first film was only strongly implying with some vague evidences that the infected are having roots in the supernatural, and are NOT classic zombies. whereas the second film outright confirms that its supernatural, which is less interesting to me. rec 3 and 4 are garbage though.
quarantine (american remake) of rec 1 is also quite good. and i mean, it is a mostly being a shot for shot remake so...this is to be expected that it is also good.
