Oh gosh, seriously. I find most horror films kind of tame, but Dumplings was something else. There are some disturbing visuals in there, but the real horror comes from what it makes you believe, the implications and moral revulsion. I don't think I've seen another film quite like it.
wonderful! yes, lots of fantastic ones on there. enjoy your watchings!
hahaha, yes. i suppose perhaps at least human centipede has value of being "so stupid and gross that its funny". it can be a film you can use to shock and confuse your friends/loved ones. the premise is so silly, and the performance of the actor who is playing the doctor is so over the top, that the movie loses all "horror" and becomes almost purely comedy horror. but still, i dislike it. especially the second and third films, which dont even have the benefit of "so bad its amusing" like the first, theyre just plain ♥♥♥♥.
yes, i remember watching its origin as a short story in the horror anthology film "three...extremes" and it was by far my favourite short segment. i was so excited when i had learned that a full independent film of that short was produced as well. and it works much better, as a full film too i think.
yes indeed. it is a horror film that, while it contains grossness and such, it relies more on the disturbing implications of the events like you say. the moral dilemma of the whole plot is great
even if i could look young forever...i do not think i could eat the dumplings...
Come and See, not really horror, but it's an unflinchingly harsh war movie.
Threads, also not horror, but a deeply bleak look at nuclear war.
You will not have a fun time. May cause anxiety.
great recommendations. i have seen "come and see", but i have now added threads to my list as well.
i have another similar film to suggest:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Got_His_Gun_(film)
also not a horror film. but a deeply disturbing film that absolutely is containing elements of horror.
onibaba, fantastic shout. it is nice to see others appreciate classic horror cinema. i assume you have also likely heard of:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_(1977_film)
another classic japanese horror film. though this one leans more into comedy, and the surreal
Yes, I saw Hausu once. Kinda makes me wish more films nowadays had that sincere energy within them. Crazy to think Suspiria and this were released in the same year (and also Altman's 3 women, though it's more of a psych thriller)
love suspiria. both the original and the recent remake are incredible to me, the original is being one of my favourites for sure. have you seen dario argentos spiritual sequels to suspiria? inferno and mother of tears?
during infernos production argento had hepatitis, the pain caused there to being many troubles with the films production. but still, i think inferno is not a terrible film. certainly not being of the level of suspiria though
and mother of tears...well. its kind of ♥♥♥♥. but 27 years after inferno, i guess perhaps argento just wanted to get the trilogy done. or he changed much artistically, as a person.
Inferno yes. But I don't remember much of it. Haven't seen Mother of tears yet. That bad huh? Most directors lose their touch over time, that is to be expected. I see it as a natural thing though, they are people after all.
yes, wolf creek is being loosely based on real life serial killers in the australian outback, though the events of the film are being greatly exaggerated for the sake of horror.
its a good slasher though, i am recommending this one too. greg mclean (director of wolf creek) made another action horror film titled "the belko experiment" that i am highly recommending as well. while it is having scares and violence and such, the most disturbing aspects of the film are being its moral dilemmas.
Which one? I just looked it up and I found two, one from 2005 and another from 2016.
(I know I could read a synopsis of each and figure it out but I hate doing that as that can spoil story beats sometimes.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Creek_(film) <-- this one
the 2016 one is being a tv series, i believe. based on the film
