Anyone have some Horror movie recommendations?
I've already seen...

Attachment (2023)
What Keeps you Alive (2018)
Midsommar (2019)
Truth or Dare (2018)
Polaroid (2019)
Smile (2022)
Smile 2 (2024)
Color out of Space (2019)
Await Further Instructions (2018)
The Owners (2020)
Kill List (2011)
Oculus (2013)
I am the Pretty thing that Live in the House (2016)
The Babysitter (2017)
The Breach (2020)
The Empty Man (2020)
Creep (2014)
I Trapped the Devil (2019)

I know Creep and The Babysitter have sequels, but I haven't seen them yet. Anyone know of any other good horror movies? It's ok if they're more of a dark comedy like The Babysitter or more sci-fi leaning or supernatural, I like all kinds of horror in a variety of flavors. :)

I'll spit on your grave (original)
The Bogeyman (original)
Reanimator
Brain Damage
The Birds
Dawn of the dead
An American werewolf in London

or something not as old like

Hostel 1 & 2
Wolf Creek 1 & 2
Crawl
Mirrors
The Ritual

Hereditary (2018)
- one of the scariest films i've seen.
Barbarian (2022)
- amazing film. well worth it.
Raw (2016)
- one of a kind. a Julia Ducournau film.
Titane (2021)
- Winner of the Palm D'Or at Cannes. A must watch film from Julia Ducournau. Possibly my favorite film of all time.

First half or 2/3'rds of Barbarian was great, ngl. Once the 'monster' reveal happens I just couldn't take it seriously anymore. Never heard of Titane though. I'll check it out.

The Birds

I love this movie! I've only seen a couple Hitchcock films but this movie is soooo good for a premise that sounds silly on paper.

Taye Diggs was my man crush when I was a growing boy.

Anyone remember Day Break? Think Groundhog Day but it's a cop/crime thriller show with Taye Diggs as a detective where everyday he wakes up on the same day where his sister, girlfriend and partner are murdered/killed as part of a conspiracy and then ABC cancels it after it starts getting really interesting as he learns that he is not the only one caught in the time loop and that he is able influence people in small ways so that they'll remember little bits and pieces of the previous loops(from the other person's perspective it comes across as a sorta deja vu like memory, iirc.) Also, his wounds don't 'reset' so if he gets injured one day, it carries over to the next loop, which adds to tension(like when he wakes up next to his girlfriend with bruises or a half-healed gunshot wound in his shoulder he has to explain.)

Really interesting concept for a TV show but maybe it was a bit ahead of it's time? I feel like a show like that would do well on a streaming platform nowadays.

I could recommend Life, 2017, Underwater, 2020. I don't watch much new stuff. The new alien movie wasn't as awful as the prior 2, but that doesn't make it particularly good. It just managed to be average.

They're not really scary anymore but Friday the 13th is a classic. Jason Goes to Hell is a pretty good one.

You can't go wrong with some Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Chime, Cure, Creepy, Pulse), Shinya Tsukamoto (Vital, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Nightmare Detective), Hideo Nakata (Ringu, Dark Water, Don't Look Up), or the Adams Family (Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, Hell Hole).

Also some decent stuff in the last year or so: Oddity, The First Omen, MADs, Get Away, Longlegs, Immaculate, Love Lies Bleeding, The Substance, Inside Out 2, Black Cab, Daddy's Head, Mr. Crocket, V/H/S/Beyond, In A Violent Nature, Baghead, Flux Gourmet, Loop Track

Barbarian's subtext is rich fare for cinema analysis. How patriarchal abuse and toxic masculinity expresses itself though property acquisition is fantastic. Plus, all horror films that end with an upbeat song get top marks from me.

An American Werewolf in London did the same:

  • Daybreakers is not your typical vampire movie insofar that it's about a vampire wanting to find a cure for vampirism so that humans stop being kept as chattel.
  • Where The Dead Go To Die is three stories about three kids who had messed up childhoods. Also there's a Satanic Labrador.
  • When Black Birds Fly is the story of an Orwellian puritan cult located in a gated community that turns worms into children.
  • Fatal Attraction was the first movie I ever watched - I was maybe 4 - and in turn is part of why I hate yandere characters.
Poltergeist from 1982

im more into action/scifi movies
