When did you first realize people could cheat?

What made you think someone else was cheating?

Have you quit playing certain games because of it?

It depends on the setting wether or not I believe cheats are okay. Are you playing a single player game, one where your gameplay doesn't affect others in any way shape or form? Cheat away. Play the way that makes it fun for you. I'd highly suggest doing a full play through of the game at least once without doing it, but it's your solo experience, so do what you want.
Are you playing in a competitive environment, or a game where your actions could affect others, like one with a player market? Don't cheat. I fully agree with permanent bans from games for people who do this. You're taking away from the enjoyment of the game for others, and that's not right.

As for when I first used cheats, would probably be back with GTA3. Great times, unlock all guns, "flying" cars, a lot of fun stuff.

Times when I knew others were cheating? Call of duty warzone. Always great to spawn out of the gulag and start getting beamed out of the sky right away by someone with aim bot. Tarkov when players are using a speed hack to zip around the map everywhere so they don't get shot.

And I definitely have stopped playing both those games (still play tarkov PvE) because of the amount of cheaters in them. Pretty much any AAA title game that's competitive I end up steering away from nowadays. It's not worth it when around 67% of matches has a cheater in it. (This statistic has been taken from people who have done studies to see how many people are cheating in Tarkov) The worst part is developers tend to just turn a blind eye to it. Nikita didn't really see cheating as a problem until PvE came out on Tarkov and a large portion of the community left the PvP side. When any of them are asked why they switched the most prominent answer is that they don't have to play with cheaters. Only after getting these responses did Nikita decide to start trying to do something as he doesn't want the PvP side to die.

Usually when the game first comes out. It is all prestine and fun. (it takes awhile to write a cheat ) that's when it's all legit.

For me I only play with my brother. Usually in a locked game. Like civ, when we're bored. It's star citizen. Sometimes star trek. I'm looking forward to that new star trek game mmo.

kills the joy. it only takes 1 cheater in a session to ruin everything for everyone / opposite team. legit player is also at fault for taunting bad players prompting them to toggle on. it's kinda obvious when someone is cheating, and it's also obvious when dev has failed to address cheating problem.

overall it's not worth it to play multiplayer these days if you don't group up via discord first for example.i wouldn't disclose any telltale sign, but any seasoned gamer with decent skill level can tell.

even cheat developer go on podcast proudly as if it's a legal thing to do.

in fallout 76 when someone does dupe glitches or anything weird like that, it breaks the server and things are not working properly, in gta 5 its just insanity at its peak, people say the CS2 has a ton of hackers, i played enlisted, tons and tons of hackers there too, nothing on pc is fun anymore, you can only get around this all by playing on console and turning off cross-platform or crossplay, consoles are also slowly allowing mouse and keyboard use in games, enlisted is going to be one of the first ones to do it for all consoles

That's pretty interesting regarding enlisted and using MnK!!!! This sounds like something I will give an opportunity to try out and see if it fits my gaming needs.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Nothing in PC is fun anymore. It feels like the insane took over the asylum.

Yet, in these forums is a chorus of trolls who tell people they aren't encountering cheaters.

It's maddening to be gaslit like that.

I agree though, all it takes is 1 person to make a selfish decision to totally ruin the game where others are playing.

for years i had a theory that consoles are on the way to become computers, and slowly but surely they are implementing small steps, you can technically use your keyboard as a controller on ps4 (that i know of) also, cod warzone also lets you use mouse and keyboard, but it puts your into crossplay matches, you can check that out, but im not 100% on how it all works

It has not, because I stopped playing most online multiplayer around 2008 or so. Not because of cheating, necessarily. I was a new father at the time and there was a lot going on in my life, plus my desire to interact with strangers was rapidly diminishing.

I could have started playing multiplayer again in the years following, but I was enjoying singleplayer games on my own terms. I could pause for as long as I needed. I could put the game away for days, weeks, months, or years and pick it back up right where I left off without worrying about everyone else surpassing me or FOMO from events held in "live service" games. Life could interrupt my playing and it was never an inconvenience.

Basically cheating hasn't affected my playing because I'm not putting myself in any situations where cheating could be a problem.

Good for you taking a step back though and changing your habits.

I just have this competitive obsession, to feel challenged, and there's no challenge like an ever evolving player/community that keeps coming back and remaking the puzzle in a way you never experienced before.

Unfortunately, that puzzle lately feels like, I have to assume everyone on the map knows my position and there's no real way to surprise an enemy by other than out aiming them as fast as possible.

Throw aimbots into the mix of that, and it clearly becomes an unwinnable situation where cheater advantage is more consistent than me at the very top of my game.

Sorry, but everyone at some point in time will find themselves cheating one way or another. It is human nature ... and that goes for something as simple as cheating in gaming.

It hasn't impacted me in gaming at all. Why? Because I don't allow gaming to influence my daily life in general. I may get pissed off at a game, but it won't affect my normal daily life.

I have better things to do. End of story.

Sorry, but everyone at some point in time will find themselves cheating one way or another. It is human nature ... and that goes for something as simple as cheating in gaming.

However, I see it as crossing a pretty big line once you're using software that you know would lead to being banned if only the anticheat tech could keep up.
