Joe Biden Reconsidering Tiktok Ban
apparently Joe Biden is now changing his mind on Tiktok being banned despite signing off on it last year and is in talks with administration on ways to keep Tiktok for US citizens

The ban is set to commence on the 19th, a day before Biden is to leave office so the final decision will be passed to Trump uwu

Tiktok (app) has full access to your device, microphone, cameras, etc. It harvests data everywhere your phone goes (military bases, hospitals, private business meetings, etc), and everything it sees (the entire screen is compromised at all times).

This is a major concern for national security. No foreign government shall have this kind of access.

With all that said, google, meta, etc. All have this power as well, but their goal isnt to destroy America (although they certainly have non American goals).

The goal of Google, Facebook, etc may not be to destroy America, but their goals certainly seem like controlling it is a large priority. As if they only exist to keep up the illusion of private entities while in reality they act as an extension of US intelligence agencies in order to circumvent the parts of the constitution that prohibit those agencies from directly controlling information and monitoring US citizens.

Anything you can claim TikTok is guilty of, those companies are definitely guilty of too, so it becomes obvious ot anybody capable of using basic logic that there's an ulterior motive behind going after TikTok and not the others besides being some security risk that is EASILY mitigated by mandating to government employees that they not have these apps on their phones. There's absolutely no reason for senators to make it illegal for the other 320 million Americans not working for the government from using what they choose, how they choose to use it.

Americans arent the ones being restricted, China is. Americans are only losing access to enemy surveillance and psyops because the weapon in question is being restricted.

Americans are still free to go live in China if they want tiktok

I don't care if people aren't being punished for using it or they're being punished for existing. Some stuffed shirt a thousand miles or so away doesn't have enough merit as a human being to tell me or any other citizen what applications we can or cannot use, least of all not when the sole purpose of this all is to aid the corporations those senators are invested in. Stop making excuses for corruption and cronyism.

Americans who want to use TikTok won't have to go to China, they'll just use proxies and VPNs... you know, the stuff people in third world countries have to use to access western websites because their governments banned them. And when they did it, they claimed it was for their citizens own good too.

How about this solution, and it's a solution anyone, anyone in the world could implement right now, at absolute no cost to them. If you don't want to use Tiktok, if you don't want them to have your information, simply don't use it. This isn't rocket science. We don't need some politician to hold our hands.

I had a MySpace back in the days, hated it. Went to Facebook for a few years, hated it. Tik Tok I avoid like the plague. Social media is cancer.

And you didn't need a law to not use them anymore, did you?

Hopefully Trump bans TikTok for good. I think Gen Z would be better with one less social media app.
Given that its CEO, Shao Chew, is an invited guest of honor and will be attending DJT's inauguration, along with Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, and Jeff Bezos -- all on the dais, right up there with President Trump's own family members and other VIPs, I'm guessing that him banning Tik Tok is not in the cards.

If Tik Tok is banned, it will be the Intelligence Community and Congress doing it, not President Trump.

Look on the bright side though -- Gen Z will be mad about this for 4.3 seconds, which is the ironic but inevitable result of their addiction to short form videos. :amadeus_happy:

Interesting, you are from LA. That is where cancer comes from.

Not a very intelligent post. Sounds like you are expecting Trump to ban or not ban during his inauguration lmao... Are you sure you are not GenZ?

What this means is it is up for negotiation........ The card is absolutely in the deck.....
Regardless of how Biden worded his change of mind it means he is now pro China. He should not continue to remain in office and give comfort to an adversarial country.

why ban tiktokk? americans fear it's spyware? everything steals your data
Indeed. Android and Windows are made of spyware. Your ISP is nothing but backdoors.

Most phone apps are spying on you and selling your data to anyone and everyone, from ad companies to intel agencies worldwide. Whoever will pay, or credibly threaten them, gets your data.

So, what? Ban apps? All of 'em? No more apps, then. You want to spy on us you better dig through our trash cans or look at us from across the street with binoculars and good camera lenses, and watch us while taking notes on a little notepad, like in the olden days. :amadeus_happy:

Satire, sort of -- there's probably no stopping the pervasive surveillance -- even without social media and apps they do all the above anyway. Nobody's talking about Nextdoor, which is your freakin' actual human neighbors, spying. Funny how nobody wants to talk about the actual humans working surveillance (HUMINT), nor the massive scale and scope of it.

Do you honestly believe Trump would invite the CEO of Tik Tok on stage if he wanted to ban Tik Tok? Make that make sense for this GenX old fart.

Force majeure, US Treasury would have to pay China almost $1 Trillion immediately of the debt /US Securities that China possesses. China could get the planet to Sanction the United States.

Correct, but stopping foreign actors from meddling with your country is the higher priority
No, if anything it'd be the higher priority to stop my country from violating human rights, considering I live here. Though I consider it an equal priority to stop both.
