Not enough for these days.
Why, what games don't run at 60fps?

for normal TV watching they likely will not use panels above 60Hz, so you are stuck in the need of most people,
unless you are willing to pay extra for 120Hz,

and being so generous with gaming equipment isnt like invest into health care, why dont everyone go easy, so they dont hurt themselves.

in my experience, after I bought a 240Hz monitor, at the moment gaming just become a whole lot more serious for me ,and the color looks a lot washed out because the panel they used for 240Hz, isnt really great at that time.
I myself use a samsung neo qled 55 inch as main screen and a cheap 1080p 60hz monitor for browsing and stuff on side

What's your budget? New or 2nd hand?

Refresh rate isn't so much relevant with new TVs, most are now 120 Hz, if you want good compromise get a mini LED, Hisense does well.

If going for second hand Panasonic is worth trying to get, you could pick up a good 1080p 60 Hz IPS screen for great price. People don't see it now, but they'll be sought after at some point in the future mainly because TVs of that era have 3D support (niche but enthusiasts are out there) and also they don't suffer burn in issues like OLED so have a decent image after many years.
Isnt 1080p tvs basicly dead
Nowhere near dead, they're just being marketed differently, eg. they're now called "Full HD", before 4k they always used to show 1080p on marketing material.

Terrestrial TV is struggling to get up to 720p (HD), and even 480p and 576i in some cases. I think TV transmitters will turn off before networks get a chance to broadcast in 4k Dolby Vision.

Are you buying a TV for watching TV or gaming? If it's for gaming then you may consider a gaming monitor. They have higher refresh rates although its best to check the manual first. Also the gaming monitor is great for consoles and PC.

TV's are more or less designed around displaying ATSC signals. They will mostly be clocked around 60 HZ.

If you want the best of both worlds, I would get a gaming monitor then later pick up a DVR for watching and recording TV. Although almost no one I know still watches that junk. TV died a long time ago.

Why a DVR? You can watch IPTV on your computer if that's the reason for getting a TV.

All TVs have a crappy OS, LG, Samsung, Sony, you name it. If you rely on stock TV OS for entertainment your stuck with a giant billboard. Shield + Kodi or Rpi 4b and above + LibrELEC is the solution.

The only reason for buying a TV over PC monitor is the size, the tuner is becoming less and less relevant these days.

If you wanted quick IPTV solution, you can get playlist for your country and plug it into VLC, although there are better ways to do it: https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv?tab=readme-ov-file#playlists

He said TV so I assumed he meant local channels. But I agree with you if he wants to watch from IPTV. Gaming monitors can also do that, but most don't have speakers. You will need an amp of some kind and of course speakers.

Yes good point about TV not having speakers, this should definitely factor in when choosing TV vs monitor.

TV speakers are usually done at a cost, having said this my C4 has half decent sound. I'm finding myself not turning on my surround sound amp sometimes because the sound quality is sufficient from this TV.

This conversation feels so "deja vu" to me. I'm more than sure they have normal TV's you usually pick up at Walmart Vs the kind of TV's marketed towards "gamers". Those of course are going to be way more expensive.

Personally I'd be fine with a gaming monitor, but if you want something big for a front-room then I would look into a gaming TV.

Something like the Samsung 48" QN48S90D $997.99

Cheap tvs isnt something i advice it usually ends up costing more over time but the nicer tvs has pretty good sound

60 hz with or without VRR? You want VRR. What's the price difference you see between 120hz and 60z? I doubt it's big.

games are still optimized around 60hz so I wouldnt recommend going higher unless your ok with being annoyed every time you suddenly cant reach it (and you wont need super high end hardware to hit the framecap you want)
