Christians are hatefully against idolatry but they worship a random specific Jewish guy instead of God, and then use some weird mental gymnastics to claim this specific guy is the "son" of God or God himself or whatever, I doubt they even understand it themselves.

Why the insistence on worshipping a random dude instead of the actual creator?? This isn't monotheism, this is confusion on a mass scale :S

it's not literal, the passage uses burning coals to refer to shame, of which was a big deal in ancient cultures. In most ancient cultures to bring shame upon yourself or you family was a very bad thing to do.
