What is your favorite Linux Distro?
and why?

I am currently using Debian. The simplicity and GNOME shell extensions allow me to make my preferred desktop experience and the fact that it's debian means almost everything I need is supported.

Had to google this one. I've never heard of it but it still filled me with nostalgia for old linux in the mid 2000s

What you meant to say is KUBUNTU. Right? Right!

Bruv... SliTaz. The most geniously compacted OS in the whole damn world in our lifetime. I love it!

The one that will let me use Adrenalin.
Oh wait. That's none of them thus far.

AMD cards have way more control on Linux than Nvidia.
You can use gamescope, CoreCtrl and LACT

I will be buying an AMD GPU next for my linux because they are very well integrated together.

GNOME has been doing this for over a decade now, this is no new news. I remember back when GNOME 3.6 came out and it brought a simplified version of Nautilus that removed many features, and people were pissed. If you don't see GNOME simplifying things for the sake of simplifying them from a mile away, than your head is under a rock. Hell, Torvalds himself ditched early GNOME 3 for much this reason until he was able to replicate his workflow with extensions.

GNOME is also the largest desktop environment by userbase, so it's no wonder that they have an high influence on the direction of the GNU/Linux desktop and software stack. Someone is going to do it.

If that's what you like, than great. XFCE is starting to see it's port to Wayland, so that's something you can look forward to.
I still can't get wayland to reliably work with my Nvidia card. it always ends up borking with updates .

Seriously, most of the ♥♥♥♥ I use won't work on a Linux distro - some of it even with Wine. The minute Steam decides to discontinue Windows 10 support is the minute I consider the best way to make Windows 11 my ♥♥♥♥♥.
Which programs are these ?
Most apps have a decent linux alternative or just flat out work in WINE.

Enterprise software has the biggest issue. Like Photoshop has some weird launcher that prevents it.

Hopefully by the time that XFCE's Wayland session is at a point of being usable as a daily driver you would have moved to a better graphics card. You have some time as that'll take at least a few years if not longer.

That is a big reason why I ended up buying a Radeon RX 580 around when I was building this PC instead of a competing NVIDIA card. NVIDIA graphics cards ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck on GNU/Linux especially several years ago when things were even worse.

KDE Debian because thats what I first used when my windows broke from messing with the registry. Ironically I use Mint w/ i3wm most of the time ( i still have no idea how to use a tiling window manager and i have to look at the cheat sheet every 5 seconds)

My uncle got a pre-built with a 4070ti and upgraded it with a 4090 . Sent me the 4070ti for freee.

I used it to replace my 2080ti.

I was going to buy a 6950xt specifically for linux use- but alas. It's not the worst thing that ever happened. Many Nvidia features have been unlocked in the last year or two.

Quite honestly, I have more questions to ask your uncle than you. I wonder why he would get an RTX 4090 when he already has an RTX 4070 Ti. Honestly that upgrade doesn't make sense because it's not really a big enough of a jump in performance to really justify an upgrade, but if he saw a point in it than it is whatever.

As for your 4070 Ti, you could possibly trade it for a 7900 XT or 6950 XT (that's what I would do if I got a card like that) but I understand if that's not worth the time or effort for you.

Why have 220fps in a game (which is already about 100FPS higher than you'd notice) when you can have 230fps?
