What is your favorite Linux Distro?
and why?

I am currently using Debian. The simplicity and GNOME shell extensions allow me to make my preferred desktop experience and the fact that it's debian means almost everything I need is supported.

steam deck does use arch linux tho.

does that make gamers who use it have a privilege to say "i use arch btw"?
Steam deck locks you out of root operations without jumping through a few hoops. It also defaults to "game mode" and desktop mode is still a bit finicky to this day.

I think it's more like using Manjaro or Nobara.

Nope. Steam OS is Arch based but it is not Arch.
Okay. Using Arc-Darkest theme on XFCE

https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1317409

With Pop-OS dark icons

https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1844859

With the font Nimbus Sans Regular/Bold

It all looks very good and responds very quickly. Glad I made this thread.

GNOME developers are delusional activists who want to bend the entire Linux software ecosystem into playing by the GNOME desktop's rules. if you go with GNOME, be aware than in one year of now, you system will probably be broken with features removed. Gnome creator itself abandoned it for mac os ( https://tirania.org/blog/archive/2012/Aug-29.html ) :RogueChallenge:

GNOME has been doing this for over a decade now, this is no new news. I remember back when GNOME 3.6 came out and it brought a simplified version of Nautilus that removed many features, and people were pissed. If you don't see GNOME simplifying things for the sake of simplifying them from a mile away, than your head is under a rock. Hell, Torvalds himself ditched early GNOME 3 for much this reason until he was able to replicate his workflow with extensions.

GNOME is also the largest desktop environment by userbase, so it's no wonder that they have an high influence on the direction of the GNU/Linux desktop and software stack. Someone is going to do it.

I caught a whiff of this actually. Just threw XFCE on my install to give it a test-run. Very light-weight and retro.
With Adwaita-Dark theme(+ adwaita icons) and Fira Code as the font it looks pretty sweet. Everything is back up and working after installing one or two things.
This is very nice.
This is very snappy.
Heck. Maybe I'll stick with it.
If that's what you like, than great. XFCE is starting to see it's port to Wayland, so that's something you can look forward to.
Linux Mint because it's simple and other people (who are accustomed to Windows) can use it with little help from my side.
Still arch
I like Ubuntu because of the memes and the romantic comedy manga Ubunchu!, which was about a computer club that ran Ubuntu. I don't use it, I like being able to run all of my programs instead of maybe 10% of them.

Seriously, most of the ♥♥♥♥ I use won't work on a Linux distro - some of it even with Wine. The minute Steam decides to discontinue Windows 10 support is the minute I consider the best way to make Windows 11 my ♥♥♥♥♥.
Can't really go wrong with Mint or Arch.

I've been gaming almost exclusively on Steam Deck for a little over 2 years now and don't really have any complaints about the SteamOS on it, nor do I see any really good reason to install Windows on it.

Would be interested to hear from any cats here that have used Rhino. It seems like a really great idea with the rolling releases and so forth but has anyone here used it and liked it?

Milady.
mint... because it's hilarious and highlights the trivial nature of the OS.
CachyOS. Mostly because it seems to be a solid performer on my laptop. I didn't use it long enough yet to recommend it or not. But, so far I had no os-breaking issue.
i use like xubuntu or something on an oldass chromebook because the battery lasts 8-9 hrs and it wasn't awful.
steamOS on the deck is nice and i'd try it on a new PC build if they ever put it out standalone.
put mint on some laptops for ppl and they haven't complained. seemed snappy and intuitive enough.

I still can't get wayland to reliably work with my Nvidia card. it always ends up borking with updates .

Which programs are these ?
Most apps have a decent linux alternative or just flat out work in WINE.

Enterprise software has the biggest issue. Like Photoshop has some weird launcher that prevents it.
