What is your favorite Linux Distro?
and why?

I am currently using Debian. The simplicity and GNOME shell extensions allow me to make my preferred desktop experience and the fact that it's debian means almost everything I need is supported.

Well I tried a lot of ubuntu reskins but always end up at mint xfce. My favorite DE is definitely xfce. It's light, minimal and just works.

I plan to switch to arch though because I do want to configure every little detail and have a very minimal and clean system and also I often have an issue on mint with needing newer packages and not having them available. Plus, I get to tell people that I use Arch btw and feel superior.
I need to try XFCE and cinnamon. I just always get so attached to GNOME. I know that's not a popular opinion- but I do love the way it functions and looks. I have a soft spot for the apps it ships with too.

GNOME is the most popular desktop environment, and I think that's a big part of why it gets quite a bit of hate. Not saying that there aren't valid criticisms (especially of it's resource intensiveness) but anything popular enough will get its haters.

I do like many things about GNOME, and at the end of the day it is a very polished and easy to use desktop environment. It's simplicity makes it great for people just learning how to use a computer for the first time or people who are easily distracted.

With that being said, if you like GNOME and haven't tried it yet I would suggest you check out MATE.

Personally I tried gnome and I it just felt sluggish and not as snappy. But, to each their own.

Interesting. I have a PinePhone and Gnome ran great on that. If you know, you know.

GNOME developers are delusional activists who want to bend the entire Linux software ecosystem into playing by the GNOME desktop's rules. if you go with GNOME, be aware than in one year of now, you system will probably be broken with features removed. Gnome creator itself abandoned it for mac os ( https://tirania.org/blog/archive/2012/Aug-29.html ) :RogueChallenge:

I caught a whiff of this actually. Just threw XFCE on my install to give it a test-run. Very light-weight and retro.
With Adwaita-Dark theme(+ adwaita icons) and Fira Code as the font it looks pretty sweet. Everything is back up and working after installing one or two things.
This is very nice.
This is very snappy.
Heck. Maybe I'll stick with it.

cinnamon is a better DE anyway. it works like your average windows interface, not some soyboy stuff.

I just messed with cinnmon for a little bit. I am going to stick to XFCE because I think it is a split second faster and I can launch a .sh file with a double click without a secondary window asking me how to open it.

it is better looking than XFCE though.

steam deck does use arch linux tho.

does that make gamers who use it have a privilege to say "i use arch btw"?
