This is a real ass Devil May Cry game we were robbed of.
Everyone hated and complained about the reworked combat but they never backed down on that change. My theory as to why is that the current combat system is easier to develop around the gatcha with them being able to make more "characters" out of the existing DMC resources and needing less effort to create new resources for entirely original "characters."
If you're ever curious enough to try it, just play ZZZ instead.
I'll take your word for ZZZ, I'm trying to avoid live service games because I don't want to get attached to something that can potentially disappear in the future. Oh well.
I have also already played so many live service games (and spent money on them, like with The Division 1 and 2) that a gatcha being a live service game itself isn't really a big deal to me. I do know that these games will all eventually shut down and that's just something I'll face when it happens.
