Most people have a single partner at any one time. The general unwritten rule for most people was to have had a few partners or sexual encounters before meeting someone they connect with on a personal level. After that, they tend to settle down with a single partner around their thirties. However, cheating was more common at a time where it was a taboo to be a single parent. Now polyamory is more acceptable where the family unit hasn't been implemented or is non existent.

I've only known of one particular internet personality to do it, and it pretty much destroyed his life as he knew it. Especially when his former wife lied, and accused him of cheating for participating, despite it being her idea.

Aside from the lie, if the relationship is already under strain, I think it can be super unhealthy for an already unhealthy relationship.

I'm no relationship expert at all by the way, those are just my thoughts.
