A lot of sports such as those horse oriented are based on exclusivity that people book months in advance for members only. A horse can be worth millions and even if buyers have the finances, they still need to go through requirements before sellers approve them owning a horse that 90% get rejected at a place/seller I know within my close network.
Golf just suits them well. So that after a good shot, they can feel satisfied mentally (with an inner voice whispering: "i am not only rich but have some extra talent than those poor ones") for a few days while sipping their very expensive hard-found champagne.

You do realize that golf courses take up approximately 3000 sq. miles in the USA. That land could of been used for something useful. Football fields are significantly smaller too. Bruh.
That´s 0.07% of the space of the US. Here the golf courses take 0.13% of the space.
And as we´re a football nation, it´s also measured in football fields. So the size of our country is 50 million football fields, but we only have 50k, so there´s room for more...

That's why it's such an expensive sport. I'll stick to mini golf. And by 'stick to', I mean I won't because I don't play gold. But if I did, that's what I would do.
