because either they don't care or never learned why some people associate those rings to pigs.
"Nose rings are put on pigs to stop or reduce the natural behavior of rooting – the act of digging into the ground with their snout to find food. By making rooting painful or uncomfortable for the pig, the rings prevent them from causing excessive damage to pastures or public lands, minimize damage to fences, and help maintain ground cover and reduce nutrient runoff."
The thing is, each generation associate various things with certain symbols... The younger generations in the western world seems to hate blue/purple hair and nose rings.. but when I was young, that was the thing everybody wanted and went for....
It's more to do with the types of people the certain nose ring trend or other trends attracts now, more depressed and mentally ill than emos of the past. What a feat.
Indeed.. but back then Goth was an actual lifestyle and not just about wearing specific clothes and makeup (albeit many did do that on various occasions)
I still see and even know plenty with nose rings, that would not like being tied into that box... if you dig far enough, you will notice that even more people don´t have nose rings (in the box some create) but they lock onto niche things and then associate them with certain things.
We latch onto narratives and then further them and look for patterns..
