Which is Better, Necro Posting or Starting a New Posts?
Which is better, necroposting or starting a new discussion on the post you want to necro? I once necroed a post with useful information that had not been talked about and the author lost their minds. I thought a point of the discussions was for people to have a reference for when they need help

What if you have something useful to add that hasn't been talked about?

I was just kidding, because... well, you know that saying, right? No matter what you do, someone will criticize you. So do whatever you think is best.

If the old thread is currently active with recent posts then you can post in the old thread. Otherwise making a new thread is usually better as necro threads are outdated and against Steam policy.

Isn't that like re-posting closed, modified or deleted content or is this completely different?

Necro posting has started to become more popular lately.

Neither.

You should learn how to go back in time and post the comment in the thread before it died.

I think necro old topics have less value. It was discussed. It was concluded by people in the past. New messages can be redundant or to trigger new wars.
Also case by case basics. For example a new method was discovered, so it brings strong value to the old topic.
But again, the old OT or other commenters are not there to read the topic anymore, so what's the point..

It's all about time...

Anything a year or older is a necro... and that's bad.
Anything made that same week is spamming... and that's bad.

The problem is when people dig up year old + threads* and reply to something nobody is talking about now... or makes 10 of the same topic threads in less then a week when there's 5+ on the main page...

I would say use "common sense".... but these days there's little "sense" from people and it's definitely not "common" any more.

* Unless it's still active... don't make a "last thing you watched on YouTube" when there's one still going and active ~EVERY DAY~

There's a HUGE difference between a year old thread posted in two minutes ago... and one that was posted in a YEAR ago...

Not only that... but when they do reply to a necro thread it's always a "yes, I think so too" like that's contributed anything or the OP even remembers a year later making the thread. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Necro is fine in context where it's support related or new information has come to light to help troubleshoot.

By default old threads are considered outdated, so no need to revive them just because the game has received an update or mod that changed that around.
Starting new threads.
