Pocket Knives
Do you own one, how old were you when you bought it, do you carry it with you religiously.
I noticed that many males in my country when they turn 17-18 and get their first job they seem
to always spend one of their first paychecks on a pocket knife, I myself have even fallen into this
trend, do you?

I own or have owned numerous knives multi-tools over the years and still carry a Buck 110.

I do, but I don't carry that one around for obvious reasons.

In the UK you are more than likely to have it taken away if you are caught by the police. Carrying any sort of knife without a specific reason is frowned upon.
Yes, 18, yes

Bowie knife, on the right thigh under pants accessed through a false pocket

Folding knife, under shirt on belt near rear right pocket

Razor blade, kept hidden under tongue
I own a couple. I used to carry one around at all times, since it was on my keychain, but my current job forbids them so I don't take it anywhere anymore.

I got my first as a gift around 10 I think. I still have it. My second, I bought myself around 13.

You may wonder what the purpose of owning more than one is. Well, there are a lot of reasons (especially for the multitool types like the famous swiss army knife) but for me what it boils down to is:

1. The size of the blade. Lots of knives have tiny blades, like two inches long by maybe half an inch wide, and those are really popular and do have their uses but are not good for heavy duty. Multitool knives tend to have these. The one I used to carry everywhere was a good three inches long by one inch thick. Just a lot more durable and comfy to use.

2. The serration of the blade. They come in serrated (like a steak knife, with the row of tiny points), non-serrated and partly-serrated. The one I used to carry everywhere was non-serrated, but I also had one around the same size that was half-serrated, meaning the end by the handle was serrated then it becomes non-serrated on the end by the tip. It had good utility, but I rarely used the serrated part unless I was camping so I kept it put away until I suspected I would need it.

My small and multitool knives were all gifts. Not that I don't like them, but they're not my particular cup of tea. If I'm buying them myself, I always go for the single blade around the 3"x1/2" form factor, and typically keep one non-serrated and one half-serrated.

Also, my one giant knife was a souvenir. Thing is like 8 inches by 2 inches and I have never once used it, lol.

I own lots of knives and none of them are for stabbing people. I use them often, though my mini multitool has seen the most use.

I never used to bother, but since using a knife every single day in work to cut tapes, string, etc, I feel wrong with without one in my pocket.
I bought a multi tool thing. It's good quality but the mini scissors suck.

thing is, in a street fight, you dont need a long blade, you need a handle thats not gonna slip out of your hand. even a fork will do as long as you can hold it tight.

also fun fact: i read a 80's us army military training handbook. the advice they give you for getting in a knife fight. preparedness. tape pillows, shirts, anything you can find around your arms. dont get fancy trying to take out the jugular. its a slashing fight.

the person who bleeds the least wins.

Ah I see. I never really thought of a pocket knife as a weapon. I use mine for opening packages, untying stubborn knots and the like. I used to whittle a bit too but that's been a while.
Pocket knives aren't my thing, but chef knives are

I so like the red handle. Though I'd prefer if it was all solid metal.

I also own a hunting knife with a emergency supply kit hidden in the handle inside my car.
