Hating on Wikipedia is something geriatric school teachers do out of jealousy because they had to research the stupid hard way when they were in school and think everyone else should have to also.

Theory:
If the rate of crime drops then the need for police drops and some police officers risk unemployment.
If the rate of crime increases then so does the need for police and some police officers are gifted extra hours and paid overtime.
If the rate of crime explodes then many police officers risk being replaced by more competent police officers.
No doubt they contributed to SOME good things that have flown completely under the radar as people are more interested in seeing them fail... but if i had to hazard a guess i'd say those successes are far and few between.
They should be properly organized and use their collective weight to get some of their reprensentatives into government.
"The ends do not justify the means". They never did, apparently. And becoming exactly that which you (supposedly) fight against, is way beyond pitiful, other than the epitome of hypocrisy, of course. "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster"
