What would you do?
If you got teleported back 1 hour before Tintanic hit the iceberg?

Sabotage the engines.
A good first thought, but a poor answer. The Titanic had 29 separate boilers running three separate screws. There is no practical way to go from arrival to stopping that ship from hitting that iceberg in less than an hour.

I simply said sabotage them, not make use of them.

What the crew decides to do when they realize their engines don't work is up to them.

However, 24 of those boilers are double vent and most likely kept in battery for different screws. Realistically it comes down to three to six junctions that need to be damaged, and the easiest way to do this is to simply overheat the engines. Or in other words speed the ship up.

But, there's a time constraint, so while I'm impersonating a member of the coal and/or maintenance crew I need to also devise ways to loose steam. This will ensure that the restt of the crew will join in shoveling and helping me overheat the engines.

I also need to disguise the loss of engine power so that nobody looks for the venting steam. The simplest way to do this is to ensure that one of them explodes early on, so that crews are busy repairing the damage.

As for the single vent backups, repeating the pipe sabotage will help control their output and give them a leg to limp to port on. A fire in the coal hold will also destroy their stocks and make them extra cautious about their route.

I'm confident they'll ram the iceberg anyway though, even if I somehow manage to drive them off course and also bring them to a stop. I might buy everyone a few days of extra life at best.

The main purpose of the ship in the first place was just to assassinate rival aristocrats. Something very easy to do if cabin placement and access is controlled, which ofc it would be for such vips. Especially if their rivals were also on the ship with them, ensuring the plot went according to plan. One of the more interesting unclassified documents I read.

Break the radar screen.

The whole reason it hits the ice is due to a Super Refraction phenomenon.
Their radar in 1912 will show them incorrectly that the ice is far when it's already near. The cold atmosphere changed the distance of radar beams.

It's like you're driving far away from a lorry and suddenly a car appeared right in front of you.

You can sabotage their engine, but they will eventually restart it after some time. They could miss the first iceberg but they will still hit the second. How many icebergs were there? 15,000 to 30,000.

Breaking the radar screen will force them to rely on binoculars and manual vision.

You may think that i am getting preposterous "again" but you can't save anyone by teleporting in that ship before it crashes into iceberg. You may save the ship itself, but you can't save even 1 more person from dying that day. If you had saved the ship, those people who died that night would still be dead "without any reason" in front of your eyes, one by one.

Sounds weird but it is just that.

Well that's the thing though. Radar was already considered unreliable due to its newness and people's poor grasp of its usage, and doppler duplicates were still an extremely common phenomenon. So they were already relying on binocs and manual vision, and the crew responsible for this did actually warn the captain.

Furthermore, the series of engine explosions, coal fires, and junction damage resulting in unpredictable engine output all happened as well. The boat was in a crisis state already, or at least dealing with a series of major crises.

Captain really really wanted to ram that berg.

Not a thing. I don't think I would exist then or if I did I would probably be in a different place.

We could start fires, to cancel out the water

This could actually work, start a fire and they will be forced to stop to put out the fire. By that time iceberg has probably drifted off the direct path of the ship.

Sabotage the propellers so that it yeets into the iceberg (exact words I will use in my trial if I live). I've heard mixed things about wheather or not that would have actually helped but either way, if I'm going to be part of the most infamous maritine disaster in history I'd rather not go out like a coward.

Those things were massive and you have no access to anywhere near them, aint gone happen.

Fine then; throw my phone into the bridge after catching it on fire (how safe can wiring possibly be in the early 1910's?). Can't pay attention to iceberg warnings when dealing with a lithium fire with no equipment meant for a class D fire.
