Because a lot of birds were hunted to almost extinction for their feathers. This was especially true for songbirds as their feathers and eggs were sought after for fashion and by collectors. So hunters who were passionate about the sport and out doors formed groups like autobon and pushed for regulations on hunting, to ensure that their would be wildlife for enthusiasts to enjoy. A lot of birds are protected now to this day by those regulations.

Isn't the Bison still here? Just in very low numbers or is that a different type. Only thing you can go overboard with is Wild Hog in Texas.
