Windows Home vs Pro
Beside the differences in stronger security….are there any benefits for a single user if he has the pro edition? I heard you actually have more controll over your device but can’t confirm that

unless you need a lot of networking the home version is more than enough

It’s pretty good for using virtual machines and also you don’t need a Microsoft account to use it which is pretty good.

It does come with Hyper-V, though you want a fairly recent processor to avoid performance impacts from enabling the hypervisor.

another feature of the pro version IIRC is the ability to not automatically install updates.

i'd say for the most part you wont have any real downside to using the home version, but if you feel like you need one or more feature of the pro version then it is your call completely.

Isn't it now just delaying them? Or do you mean Group Policy controls?

Is hyper v running per default? I think you had to activate it firstly I’m not installing it on my gaming rig i want to activate it on the deck. The problem is i ran into some troubles with using gog galaxy on linux. I can activate it on my main pc when the motherboard supports tpm. My motherboard doesn’t support it even if i have a beefy rig

I think you can deactivate the automatically downlods one the home edition as well but if it’s per default on pro that’s another plus

i dont rightly know, i just have a vague recollection of having seen something about it mentioned when comparing versions at some point.

Always had the home editions but the pro makes the software more your own because it gives you more freedom

Yeah, that's part of Group Policy controls, it persists indefinitely until you decide to install an update package. I had to schedule an update for a Windows PRO installation not too long so that DLSS could be used.

I would always use pro because I do use a lot of the admin functions. I expect to be able to turn services on or off, change things with regedit or powershell, and access everything in the control panel.

Casual users can probably get away with Home but I see it as a watered down version of Windows.

There are a few extra utilities but for me the biggest difference is that you don't need an account with pro.

There's a way to get around the online account requirement for Home too. Also it appears that in-place upgrades are exempt from Microsoft Account requirements.

Yes. Defender Application Guard, Gpedit, and Bitlocker to name a few. Most people can get by with Home. I think with W11 Microsoft has abandoned SMB v1.0 and you need Pro to get it back and have to do so manually.

They did that in Windows 10 too, it's currently just a checkbox in Windows Features. Had to turn it back on to communicate with my older VMs and my ancient testing PC.
