varies.. and varies on the type of special ed.


-first most special ed here is only primairy school which is 4-12 yo.

there basicly are 4 variants
**regulair
**LOM (which is same as regulair but with more funding and smaller classes.. usually with all people with autism, adhd, and other disruptive elements
**MLK (the kids who are just retarded.. down syndrom people but also other people with iq's so low they never will be able to become adults for the law)
**ISO (for the really insane.. lets call this the mental asylum.. it can also be pushed on children who are put to spend the day or even boad therapy centers for autism or adhd or such.. it basicly is no education.. it is just a therapist glad you googled a few factoids now enjou 1 more hour of videogames

at 12... you go to middle school which here is split in 4 difficulty levels and lenghts

vbo for age 12-16
mavo for age 12-16
havo for age 12-17
vwo for age 12-18

those coming from LOM and regulair primairy school go here..
there does excist LOM varians of mavo and vbo.. called VSO.. and some former LOM go there..
(but thats far from a given as there are like 100LOM schools in the country per 1 VSO and ofcourse if you need to go to the more difficult and for smarter students havo and vwo.. than regulair is basicly your only option.

those coming from MLK generally go to something called IVBO
(for most it is preperation to become a social workplace worker all their life.. but some MAY learn in 4 years how to be a actual job like a cashier or cleaning lady (jobs that normal people need no education for at all and can do with just primairy school completed)

social workplace basicly is state subsidides work.. to give ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ something to do all day.. a bit how inmates are put to work but in this case it's psychiatic patients.

those coming from ISO.. can go all 3 of these ways or continue with ISO
(as the quality of ISO is often deplorable.. for well if you ask a college educated therapist to teach and put that low emphasis on the quality of education usually the students qualify for nothing after spending to many years of ISO/.... but theoretical one can take a test after ISO to asses ones education level and acces right upto vwo at 12yo.
it is just with being alowed to play all day and no pressure at all to do any learning.. very very few will pass that test at any level that allows future education

so when your between 16 and 18.. and you exit an teenage variant of ISO, IVBO or VSO.

VSO -> your exam is worth the same as regulair education no special edd after this age though..
so to learn a job you now have to enroll in normal education
well you now will go to college, bachalor, master, or phd education and learn your job

IVBO -> this IS a job education so after ending it.. you start working.. paid if lucky.. unpaid in a clinic prison if unlucky.

ISO -> it is not allowed to continue ISO after 18.. so at 18.. you got to take that test.. basicly you enroll in an vbo/mavo/havo/vwo exam.. and have to pass.
if you pass you can enter the job education fitting that level..
if not.. you basicly seen as uneducated and well your life most likely be welfare all your life unless you enroll for adult education hoping to learn what you have not yet. later.

I've have seen a group home for somewhat functional SPED kids, it had a caretaker staying with them at all times. I assume they did some menial labor such as sorting junk at a salvation army warehouse during the day, since that is about as much as they are capable of.

for me personally :

I was in a normal school for exactly 1 year.
than until 8 I was in a LOM primairy school before being put in a clinic until 12.
so 8-12 I followed ISO.

=> however despite the crappy quality of education there my stubborness and wisdom beyong my years (rebelling against the whole madness of treatment before education and playing games)
.. and i happened to be a reasonable autodicat...
so at 12 I passed the test so well I qualified to go to vwo.. however my parents hid this test result from me..

and so from 12-16 I was on mavo level on a VSO..
I graduated logically best of school the difficulty was way to easy for me..
and I even graduated in 3 years not the normal 4 (I could do faster but the school dit not allow me to skip ahead more than 1 year)

than I went to a regulair school on pair with what in usa would be an associate degree the first experience with "normal" people around me at a school.

well I can say WHAT a shock.. what DUMB DUMBS (logically for the first time the people around me were people actually of that IQ level and not people doing education that was to easy for them)

only now my parents told me well actually your test back than did say vwo... and I felt very betrayed...


so I did quit this asociate degree level education after halve a year year... and looked into my options.,
with mavo I could join havo in year 4.. meaning 2 years to do havo... and than with havo I could join vwo in class 5.. meaning 2 years to do vwo.. 4 years wasted...

I said f that.. and opted a faster route.. bought all the books needed to study for vwo in a secondhand bookstore.. and applied for the central exam that same year.. I just had 6 weeeks to study and central exams are winner takes it all. no chance to retest.. you need to pass all classes.. or you fail.
I passed.. and just saved myself 4 years..

after that I did the rest of my normal education which got me where I was now..

but mind you... not all have the mental stamina or intelligence to pull all this off... and I still think i would have been futher in life had I been send to normal school and normal vwo at the right age.

like I never have gotten the chance to make normal friends my own intelligence in my teen years because of this.. and state exams do not allow you to get ♥♥♥ laude or summa ♥♥♥ laude like regulair exams.
-> having that added to your degree does hold certain advantages in later education.. which likely had smoothed out career and future study opportunities..
