Should Northern Italy get its independence?
Catalonia in Spain was not allowed to be independent.

But what about Northern Italy. Should they be allowed to form their own country - free from Southern Italy?

Your opinion?

Meh. Everyone wants the world to return to when there were only City-states. Every City was a separate "country".

What's the argument for independence?

I would not like to see Italy split in two.

Can they afford to? Meaning is the economy of Northern Italy able to support its people, without money from the rest of Italy?

You mean Austria? They're already independent.

It's still going on i see, after more than a thousand years. As an Italian American with my brethren from southern Italy, this needs to stop.

Northern Italy is wealthier, more industrialized, more educated, less religious than Southern Italy. Northern Italy is "subsidizing" the southern parts.

Without Southern Italy the north would prosper even more (that's the argument).

+ Other Cultural differences

I think the United States should divide. All the blue states are their own country and all the red states are their own country.
Simulacrum 19 AGO 2024 a las 1:18 p. m.
There really isn't a strong separatist sentiment anymore, at least not in northern Italy. Even the largest part for northern Italy independence (Lega Nord) has shifted its focus away from independence demands. This idea is politically irrelevant and I wouldn't say it's any way comparable to Catalonia desires for independence.

Northern Italy has always been the economically strongest region of Italy, the south historically is less economically strong and more agrarian. That's part of why so much of the Italian diaspora is southern Italians
