creepy "future".
has anyone seen repo men?
By 2025, advancements in medical technology have perfected bio-mechanical organs. The Union corporation sells these expensive "artiforgs" on credit, and when customers fail to pay, the company sends "repo men" to forcibly repossess the organ — invariably resulting in the customer's death.

seems they're about on schedule...

It's a pretty cool technology as a bridge to actual organs being transplanted. Much better for a heart failure patient than laying there like a vegetable on ECMO. That isn't feasible for very long at all.

...But also on the theme you're on about, Repo! The Genetic Opera was a musical rock opera thing about an extremely similar topic with a very similar level of quality to Repo Men. Worth checking out though because it's... it's a thing. A very bombastic thing. You kind of will need to be drunk to get through it though, as the pacing is bad and it's all drawn out so long. But there's a couple of bangers and good bits that are strewn throughout it.

Gattaca eugenics and Minority Report advertising seems like the most likely dystopian near-futures.

Hopefully https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Machine_Stops happens first.

Let the braindead social media drones feel true despair before the end.

not exactly, I mostly see issues with people signing lease type agreements on these sort of things that stipulate they can be recovered when you pass away naturally and people having issue with it because of "religious beliefs" and many lawsuits...

weird they predicted the year tho :S

Don't ever underestimate humanity ability to dehumanize """targets""", human history does show what a human is capable of doing, both in the good ethical and the amoral sense :lunar2019deadpanpig:

What do you think abortion and the proposed "free" abortions for Medicaid people is?

Convince poor women to terminate pregnancies. Less poor people.

Cost effective and empowers women.

Why do you think many businesses off free abortions to employees and their spouses? They're cost effective.

why do you think people say "the brace position it designed to kill you"

it's a good headline... but it's also true that it's cheaper to cover a wrongful death suit than pay lifetime support to someone.

You have me thinking about the young guy that was jailed in North Korea - only to be released back to the United States and promptly die. I could only imagine the horrors that guy endured.
