The most popular PvP games are either (old) battle royale games, or very old games coasting as "live service" . the most played (pvp) games on steam and xbox/ps are old games

battlebit remastered----. 254 player servers battlefield, less graphics. its too bad it looks like another steam early access abandonment project.

multiplayer games are anything but brainless, you’re literally competing with other players, and it isn’t easy to win unlike single player games that give you the win and holds your hand at your own pace . seriously calling multiplayers brainless when you have AAA garbage like interactive movies and characters telling you how to solve rudimentary puzzles is a joke.

There are some quite nice multiplayer games, I have no problem with them but they are not the pinnacle of games. And if you want to pick a single example of a single player game? Well that's great. Should I pick an example of a multiplayer game to criticise? And yes, I count multiplayer action FPS games as brainless. You'll note I didn't say they didn't require skill. I prefer singleplayer games most of the time. When I'm playing Elden Ring I don't avoid invasions because I'm bad at them. I win some, I lose some. I avoid them because no matter whether I win or lose my reaction is "Finally that's over, I can get back to the game now"

I will take a nice beefy 80 hour RPG over Call of Duty any day. A game set in a abandoned house and I have to piece together what happened? That's awesome. A grand strategy game where I'm guiding generations of a family dynasty in an attempt to better our situation. Perfect. And some of these can be multiplayer, that's not the point. I'm not AGAINST multiplayer but multiplayer pvp is not the pinnacle of gaming. It's not what all should aspire too. It's an option, and a simple one at that. No character motivation, no story, no... nothing. Just "Here's a gun, shoot the other guys"

well call of duty sucks anyway, so not really a good example to use against MP since other multiplayers have came out since COD. i hate that COD is actually still relevant considering how recycled and stale it is after over 15 years of milking. but i disagree that multiplayer has no lore/character motivation/story and isnt pinnacle worthy

Which is regardless preferable to playing one game ad nauseum for years.

but you get to play with and against other people which makes it fun. single player you play against scripted bots for a pre-determined outcome, and then never play it again . might as well just rent the game instead, and then spend money on a multiplayer youll actually play for more than 40 hours lol.

You might consider playing with people that fun. Not everybody does. You might not replay "one and done" games, other people do.

Different people, different strokes and all that.

Neither is "better", it's just preference based anyway.

Well it's one of the most popular PVP multiplayer games. And all the multiplayer games I've played that have story, character, plot and soul? They're all usually singleplayer games that have Multiplayer. Baldur's Gate 3 comes to mind. Co-op lets you have that, PVP? Not so much.

I don't think it is really needed. If it is anything like Back 4 Blood, I am just fine with L4D2

valve had nothing to do with back 4 blood. valve is the reason l4d1 & 2 are so good

I know they had nothing to do with it. I just have a feeling it will not be as good. There is a reason the originals are so timeless. Why fix what isn't broken. Anything they could think of improving can just be created via workshop mod, anyway.
