how do you 100% a game?
(things= collectibles, secrets, upgrades, challenges, grind, and all this optional stuff to 100%)
1- you collect thing along the way
2- you do the level normally and before the end you backtrack (but you reached the point of no return)
3- you collect things on first run
4- you collect things on second run
5- you don't use any guide
6- you use always guides
7- you use guides only to be very sure on somethings ar when you are really stuck
8- you collect things for fun
9- you do it just for plat or unlocking something like an ending
10- you don't do it
11- you open the map every 10 seconds in all the [a lot] hour game (me)
12- add something else yourself

so you can select more than 1 option obviosuly, but how you do it? (collect things)

All percent for me is completing all of the side quest and objectives. If you really wanna be hardcore then collect all the items.

in some games like resident evil collect all the items is pretty ok, the map turns blue... in others like open words is... ... ...

Getting all of the Achievements is how Steam determines if a game is 100% complete or not.

I eventually learned that in order to truly 100% a game I had to have a 100% list next to me and cross them out as I do them.

I went nuts in Legend of Legaia looking for that a specific card for a specific purpose that had been moved in the Localized version of the game.

The only choice on that list I wouldn't pick is #10. Achievements are now parts of a game and I rarely don't do them. I always do the ones in RPGS ,,, as for the rest of the genres I decide by the game itself.

I mostly like doing it along the way, though.

i think no
1- some achievements are not related to 100% like multiplayer achievements
2- sometimes the achievements are not so much, maybe you obtained all achievements but you didn't 100% so not always... but yes the majority of the time is yes

Doesn't matter what you think.

A game will not show 100% complete on your Steam profile unless you have all the Achievements.

You're welcome to apply any other definition of "100% complete" you like, but that's how Steam does it.

When I say I "100%" things, I mean trophies on PSN. And only the base game. If they have expansions, I don't count those.

yes obviosuly, i know that... (without counting that sometime is bugged, like if you check my profile that are not all the games i completed, i don't know why is bugged)

Yeah, a surprising number of Steam Achievements are broken.

It's why I don't hunt Achievements. :KentHappy:

First playthrough is always by my own decisions without a care about the routes in mind, applying towards RPG and visual novels, possibly towards other genres aswell.

The second playthrough, I usually have a grasp of how things do work and so that allows me for more deep exploration and enjoying different combinations that I wasn't even aware of.
Doing some research, i.e. reading guides isn't my style, I do explore things on my own and at my own pace.. Usually determined by the dopamine intake from playing the game and thus my interest in a different approach.

So, I do typically 100% it during the second playthrough if I feel like having figured things out, otherwise during the third playthrough, the second playthrough still being used towards some experminenting while the first one was purely to get myself into it and get how it plays out.
That means, I do go out of my way to look for guides during the second or third playthrough, only and only if I am feeling somewhat stuck and unsure of what to do.
Turns out, I seem to to be mostly right on the mark, but lacking the perfect approach allowing me to proceed further. A good example is my second Witcher 3 playthrough (still have to finish Blood and Wine, am about halfway through) and how to hit the manequins during the horse race with my sword. My logic was perfect, lacking any mistakes, but the finishing touch regarding precise approach was missing, not allowing me to proceed any further, forcing me to look it up.

The major obstacle when looking things up and doing my research is.. Understanding it.
Finding them seems to be easy enough, even finding the tinniest details I wish to know about it, but to understand how do those who explain it mean.. Especially when some gaming terms and terms exclusive to the game are involved, proves to be .. Tricky. Yeah.

Does this sorta reply answer the question?
When I was about to answer, I couldn't think of one specific answer amongst the list you included, more or less wanting to answer with more than just one.. So I figured, it'd be for the best if I.. Let my mind race a bit, say what's on my mind.
Hopefully, I haven't contradicted myself anywhere nor made myself difficult to understand.
Naturally, I'm willing to correct or explain myself in a greather detail if possibly and necessary.
In open-world games I will do the side quests first but it depends on the genre more so.

100%ing a game consists of dedication. Dedication takes time and effort. If you're like a achievement hunter, streamer, etc, that gets you into the mindset of 100%ing it, you just might force through it.

But all in all, game is meant to be fun. If you don't enjoy it, you're not 100%ing it. So if you enjoy it, play blindly on the first try, then replay multiple times to explore it all, and also get game's set achievements, that is 100%. That's just my opinion.

Option 5 - I don't use guides, it's lame.
