So Capcom is going woke now too...
While Nintendo recently referenced DEI in a job listing, Capcom’s localization team also shared how it makes changes to characters, gameplay, and more for the ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ pushed by Western developers.

https://thatparkplace.com/capcom-goes-full-woke-reveals-its-localization-team-alters-video-games-for-cultural-adaptation-preserving-context-and-inclusive-storytelling/

EDIT: Alternate source since people just want to resort to ad hominem against the first one.

There's a medal in my game called Priority Number One.

A translation of that might be 優先順位第一位.

Instead, the medal is localized in Japanese so the pun still works: 大なり小なり優先順位がある

That's the difference between translation and localization.

So what you detailed is not remotely even the same thing, what your doing is overwriting existing PC Codex files which yes, you can do, but now even if you change back you'll have tons of files that will no longer work once you do, hence why Localization is a must for that stuff.

Side note: Yes I read the report; thats what localization in a pure form, as they noted "cultural nuances, idioms, and regional flair." which can be perfectly explained by asking if anyone knows what a yakuta is; they likely don't if they do not understand Japanese culture that well, its a Summer-themed Kimono, how many people do you think will however know that and be left wondering in the dark about half the things that are said to them? Plenty.

Unlike what Capcom fans love to typically cry about; the world does not revolve around them; and hundreds of people do not understand Japanese culture so Capcom localizaing it, AKA giving details to what something is actually worth its weight in bloody gold

Thats not remotely woke, hell the fact I still do not know what some Japanese culture things are but now have Capcom giving support and information to them is a massive bonus to them just giving information; something more games should do frankly but this has literally nothing to do with woke.
This is the 4Kids translating "rice ball" into "jelly doughnut" all over again. So exact mistakes just with a few decades added.
All I can say is this Flame because honestly its amusing your so hellbent on this yet failed out of the gate since they've been doing this since 2011, how much would you love Dragon's Dogma or Dead Rising when they were Localized in the same way?

Don't worry about the news report: https://indiegamesplus.com/2011/12/nyu_media_capcom_to_publish_lo/

See, something funny here is your only now figuring out that Capcom is localizaing more games, they never started to do so recently, they've been doing this since 2011 and all of a sudden its just; once more; its new?

Its not, your just extremely late to the bus stop, the bus left 12 years ago, as the report even said; it was just made more clear as to what was being localized, this is not new information, its an update to information from over 12 years ago

DmC was a flop because it was a discount take on the Devil May Cry series and went out of its way to to ♥♥♥♥ on the original series in the very game with a cheap joke about a white wig that made the Dante of that game look like classic Dante.
That was a one off joke, and Donte ended up with white hair anyway. If that was the only problem, the game would have done fine.

The reason it was rejected was because it was a Japanese company's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ take at making a western game, despite the DMC series already being fairly popular in the west. People watching anime and playing Japanese games do NOT want them to be more like their western counter parts.

If they wanted to watch something more like Spongebob, then they would just watch Spongebob instead of some Japanese half-approximation of Spongebob.

DMC was effectively a westernized series from the word go. They didn't do anything other than ♥♥♥♥ all over established canon, ♥♥♥♥ all over the story that they previously created and wanted to hit the reboot button, expecting it to work. And surprise, it didn't. It had nothing to do with trying to westernize it. It has everything to do with the fact it felt like bargain brand DMC.

I mean if Resident Evil wasn't localized, we wouldn't have one of the worst actresses of our day and a Genre that was basically, "Put it in your game and it prints money".

Can't wait for you kids to get tired of screaming about "woke".

But then I realize you'll just switch from that to something even more stupid/paranoid. Just like how woke was preceded by "SJW".

It's always the same cycle. A buzzword has to be coined or co-opted in order to make it seem like a genuine movement rather than, "I don't like this", which would be the truth. But because not liking those things would be seen as bigotry, it has to be masked behind something.

I have been complaining about it for years.

Remember the R. Mika ♥♥♥♥? Muscly man pouring oil on his body then rubbing people all over himself? A-Okay. Muscly man walking around in a thong? Seems fine to Capcom. Putting Elena in the background of a stage? NOT OKAY, ALERT THE CAPCOM POLICE! R. Mika slapping her butt as a taunt? Too far! Too far! Send in Godzilla!

Yeah, I didn't miss it.

Nothing is perfect when it comes to localization, its both a major flaw while rarely a strength, great examples can be found all over the place as the strength in its localization lays within the part of how well they do it, and given that frankly when it comes to any form of locationization one should expect some errors; I expect them as well but thats always going to happen, like for voice actresses finding one that sounds close to the Japanese actress but speaks American will always be one of the harder bits, if not the outright translations of all text boxes and dialogs, it will never be a flawless process unless they spend years on it and even then it may not end up all that great.

Like for example Chaos Head Noah spent almost 14 years in localization development hell and when it finally got released; it was very poorly localized in almost every way possible; only the game code itself got localized, not the game speeches or even what was said which is why I will always say localization is a touch and go process

There's never one piece to localization, there's the localization of just the code which means ya you'll get the Enggwish borked game then theres those that take time and frankly by that point most people stop remembering the game even exists but it somehow is fully localized

This is why Sega has a studio in the US and one in Japan, as rather then make one in Japanese and then one in English, both studios work together to produce an English and Japanese game then send it off to be localized by smaller companies who then return the game, thats why Sega seems to have a seemless localization platform but in reality its the result of them just making two different localized formats then those two are sent out and localized into other langauges, in this case Capcom has only Japanese which then needs to be localized over so many other languages that by the time any one game fully under goes it, it could take up to 10 years, if not more to just be pushed out the door and even then it may only be 50% localized and thats me being kind

Am I saying Capcom will have flawless localization? No, but frankly I'm not going to hammer on their door and call them bad for giving it their A game.

No worries, it's cool. That wasn't exactly capcom's fault anyhow. It was just correlation. But localization has given some of the best moments. Like X4's WHAT! WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOORRRRRRRR! Which was supposed to be poignant, but the localization made it hilarious. Or you know, the Guns and Roses mavericks.
