Did airports really have public lockers pre 1975?
In the 70s I've heard on a thread on Airliners forum that airports used to have public lockers but due to bomb threats they had them removed. Did they at any point ever make a return or were gone for good never to be seen again? If so how did the public locker system work? Per day or per hour? Was it whatever you could cram into it?

As long as you had the key the locker was yours.

How did you get the key? Was it a per day rental and you choose XX amount of days based on how long you'd be gone? Remember this is PRE electronic area so no credit/debit cards. In fact I don't think there were any ATM cards yet but I could be wrong.

You put what ever the price was in quarters the locker unlocked you put your items in it use the the key to lock it and take the key with you. There was no time limit.

The first debit cards were introduced in the early 1970s, but their function was to withdraw funds from a checking account at an ATM. They could not be used for retail purchases and only had one job: getting cash when needed, quickly from an ATM.

The public can never be allowed the freedoms they once enjoyed, because, as always, some idiot goes and spoils it. It's the same with everything.

I guess it accidentally double posted so I deleted it thinking I deleted it all. I didn't realize it double posted so perhaps that's where the confusion was?

My question remains though how the airport lockers worked? Were they different then other public locker places? And as far as idiots spoiling things why do you think we have something called 'threat levels' then? The point of that is if we are on a lower level threat then more freedoms should come back until the threat rises.

They all worked pretty much the same.

Oh and the TSA was suppose to be 'temporary' until such threat levels were lowered enough they weren't needed again.

What about the placement of such lockers? Where were they usually located and how fast do you think they got rid of them? What was it exactly that made them be gone?

It was probably different for every airport bus station and train station. Many different reason probably for their removal. Vandalism, people not really using them so not making much money and other reasons.
I know the greyhound station in my home town still had them when I moved out of state in the early 2000s to find work.

They worked the same as anywhere else.

The problem is that once someone uses them for an evil purpose then every crackpot in the world is aware of that and can choose to use them for their own evil purpose. The threat never goes away. Once the can has been opened, you can't un-open it!

Give them a gun, give them a knife, a locker, some acid, a propane canister. Any idea you put in their head and they make use of it to cause chaos. That applies to everything. Idiots are slowly eroding our freedoms. And I don't see how we can ever undo that.

Why would you use a locker in a airport??

Assuming you are client and not an employee...

With a war between Israel and Iran about to be heated up, we gonna need them more than ever. We always had TSA. It used to be called "security". TSA is now federal officers. That's the only difference.
