By the time I got to the Maliketh boss fight, I lost interest in Elden Ring. Played about the same amount of content with Nioh & Nioh 2. Tried to get into Dark Souls but wasn't feeling it.
They're well made video-games worth the praise, but it's a genre I most likely will never get good at. Not good enough to finish one playthrough's worth anyways.
I've always been of the opinion that they're not as much hard as they are methodical. The biggest thing is rarely do I find myself dying from something "unfair" in a FromSoft game. A lot of the time I'm like "Yeah, that's on me."
At least FromSofts' are. The lesser developers without as much pedigree may be a different story depending.
Honesty masterpieces
Lies of P, for example. It's pretty close but it blatantly copies so much from From, making it feel uninspired. And they do the "ambush" thing waaaay too much. It's fun when enemies suddenly jump out of the trees, but it starts getting simply annoying when that happens ALL OF THE DAMN TIME. There's more but I don't feel like writing it all down, what it comes down to is, I got bored and quit.
From games also have the "Zaki touch" which those other games just don't. I guess trying to copy a formula isn't a great design choice generally. However, there are some who do get it right. Hollow Knight for example.
That'd be me and they're not pandering. I had to fight Radahn THEN(!) I got the fancy blades. I wanted the fancy blades at the start of my game. Give me my drip devs - don't make me work for it.
