Cost is the reason I don't have certain Spector basses and only have a Legend Classic atm. I do also have an Epiphone Tbird bass. Both 4 string.
Had an 8 string ESP LTD once.

So I hear anyway... it answers the OP question on why guitars ... and everything else, is so expensive now. By comparison though they aren't too bad overall.

Many years ago before axemusic.com shut down in Canada, I bought a Spector Legend Classic 5 string black cherry bass for around $600CAD. It's now about double that if you can find one.

Now you see, the issue's that the many Excalibur's that exist on the market at the moment have got some tonal issues due to a manufacturing flaw, as is inherent in all '64 Excalibur's prior to the CBS buy-out.

My suggestion, as I found best on my own copy, was to raise the bridge, file down the nut, and take the buzz out of the low e.

companies need us we don't need them as much (yeah the occasional water food etc. but luxury / entertainment comes and goes). There will always be someone else to rise to power. Just give it time and prices and products will change for a bit.
