Inflation is bad so I'm learning how to cook.
Now before you laugh, realize that I know the basics of cooking and I didn't eat out every day or anything, I can cook normal dinners and lunches. But now I have to learn how to cook much more, like baking cakes, fritters, frying, and stews.

What do you guys make at home using basic cooking items?

Inflation is so bad, I'm learning to starve.

They call it "Intermittent Fasting" and it's a diet trend for people who can't afford multiple meals a day any more.

Thank's Boe Jiden! :Gachiclown:
I know ♥♥♥♥ was going to get bad when "fasting" was becoming a fad.

I was shocked to find out that so many people didn't know what "leftovers" are, or more shocked to learn that they refuse to eat leftovers. It wasn't rich people saying this either, it was folks struggling to pay their bills while they ate out often.
Agreed. I'm divorced, I cook good meals during the week I have the kids and save up the leftovers in the freezer for the week they're at their mom. :cozybethesda:
I rarely eat out , so I nearly always make dinner of some kind. What I make varies, but I suppose my default is rice, chopped tomatoes and some kind of meat. (and spices of course) During winter I sometimes make soup. Summertime I sometimes just end up with toast, or leftovers on bread almost like a sandwich.

I occasionally make a cake (but as it is just me, I need freezer space for what I don't eat in a few days, and freezer space is limited , booo )

Simple one: Potatoes, carrots, a bullion cube, let simmer for however long needed on its own. Add spice if desired. Mash and eat
I do some of the crafting type food cooking sometimes.

I've made my own alcohol. Plum brandy. It's very potent stuff that goes good on ice cream.

Had a friend who used to make moonshine in the hills, he used to make a very nice tasting apple pie if you are familar with that drink.

Another thing I'll do is take garlic and put it in a jar of honey and a few other ingredients and let it soak for 6+months, and it changes the garlic into being almost candy like and very nutritional. Also removes much of the bite to garlic.

Of any technique, deglazing a pan is the one I'd recommend learning. It's super easy, just pouring some wine, water or acidic juice onto the hot pan after you have cooked any proteins. Let's you reclaim all the flavors clinging to the pan. Use it as the core of a pan sauce, or toss the protein through it for a tasty coating.

Interesting. I've heard of candied ginger but not candied garlic.

It's essentially that article although I also use various spices like red pepper flakes and a few others. And I do it longer then a few weeks.

I periodically BBQ. Just made porkribs last week. Boiled the ribs on a low simmer in apple juice and garlic cloves for 3 hours and then added a touch of char on the BBQ with my own homemade BBQ sauce.

Pizza is pretty easy. Costco has premade pizza dough or you can get the rough stuff at a whole foods store and stretch it and have it rise yourself. Very easy if you know how. The biggest trick to pizza is the right cheese or rather multiple cheeses (7 different cheeses is a good number but 3-4 work in a pinch). And you can put whatever you want on a pizza and add whatever base you want. BBQ sauce? A white sauce or a typical red.

I really learned on how to cook on my own doing alot of salsa's and chili. Both very very simple things to cook that make pretty good meals. Salsa helps you learn veggies and I used a food processor to chop it all up for me. And with chili it's a good crock-pot meal

Been using an air-frier. Those are fun. Favorite thing to cook in those are corn. Very tasty.
Don't boil ribs. Doing so gets rid of the one thing that gives it flavor, the fat. What you can do is smoke them for a hour at 225F, then wrap them in foil and cook for 2 more hours, then open them back up and place them back on the grates, and grill for another hour to firm them back up and then in that 15 minutes, baste them with BBQ sauce. Just make sure to remove the silver skin on the back side of the ribs before making them.

condensed milk,

It must be a nightmare to clean the alembic.

I prefer a small saucepan for heating, cooking or reducing milk. Takes some patience and stirring but my lactose-intolerant friends appreciate the effort to accommodate their needs.
