Inflation is bad so I'm learning how to cook.
Now before you laugh, realize that I know the basics of cooking and I didn't eat out every day or anything, I can cook normal dinners and lunches. But now I have to learn how to cook much more, like baking cakes, fritters, frying, and stews.

What do you guys make at home using basic cooking items?

Depends what I feel like eating. A home-made stew is very nice, baking your own bread is fantastic, that smell :D:

If you're cooking something that you haven't tried before, experiment a bit, the only way you'll really learn is by making mistakes, my first cake was like concrete and could have taken out a solid wall :steamfacepalm:

It takes time to learn, getting the ingredients right, cooking times, but the most important, enjoy it, it's nice when you cook something new and it turns out perfect :D:
I wouldn't laugh. There are many people who don't even know how to cook. It's not funny, it's sad. It sounds like you've got a good start, at least.

Anyway, I try getting into different flavours that go outside my usual 'food genres.' Playing is fun.
Back when I was a peasant I survived on sandwiches. I buy bread, ham, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. Since I was poor I used a waffle maker to toast my sandwich.

My dudes and chicks. Sit down and listen to wisdom. Get yourself some whole food. Cut the processed poison garbage. Cooking isn't that tough.
Instead of steaks- get chuck roasts, chuck pot roasts. Cook same as steak, no difference. Butchers also sell 15-20-40 lb. cuts so you can cut your own same as grocery store does for giant markup. Don't listen to the propaganda. Beef is a ten thousand year old fundamental of human diet, critical for strength and well-being. Especially if you actually work to know and feel the difference, like me. Just don't overcook all the good stuff out.

Everything cooked in Olive oil/coconut oil/butter
If you gotta sugar, coconut sugar. Make your own sweets. It takes me an hour to make simple whole ingredient cream cheese/sour cream cheesecake. I make 3 at a time.
Veggies- Greens, bussels sprouts, broccoli, zuccini,
Dairy- cheese, cottage cheese
Eggs.
Vitamins D3+K2
Taurine, Tumeric, krill oil.

Learn to BBQ. I mix lump charcoal with briquettes for perfect temp control.
Even my veggies- I can simmer squash and zuccini in butter and olive oil, scoop it into grill basket, set basket over coals for awhile return them to the olive oil/butter/seasoning juices and they taste like a million frikking bucks.

I weighed over 180 before I changed my diet, with a beer gut. I weigh right under 160 now 6-8 months later. Much of my joint pains, back trouble, inflammation, hypertension is gone.

i was leaving bread on the rings of the stove because it looks like a fancy restaurant.
I think learning to cook and bake is one of the most fulfilling skill sets you can have. Plus it's good fallback skill in a labor crunch. Restaurants are almost always hiring. Even if it's for a reason.

Nobody is laughing at you, well only the stupid people will laugh at you. But m8, you on the right track, learning more skills e.g cooking is beneficial to anyone. We should all take the same leap.
next level: learn to cook and medicate yourself with wild harvested ingredients. its way more healthy than what you can buy (especially that crap from the pharmacy) and its probalby gonna be real useful soon. a few things are poison but they are easy to learn, you can actually eat most of the things you find in nature, all you need is not giving a ♥♥♥♥ about how it tastes

We're already being 'strongly encouraged' to diagnose ourselves anyway, not being able to rely on the medical field as much as in years past. What a way to go.
I can follow recipes easily enough, and often buy things to make such dishes. I just picked up some blacktip shark today at the grocery store. I now need to find a recipe for it.

I bake, including making my own bread and cookies. I even got into the air fryer way of cooking (though my fried chicken needs some work still). I love to grill out and cook all sorts of stuff on the grill be it port, fish, beef. I also make my own pasta. It isn't hard, but use the proper flour to make it.

If you make your own food that also means that you can fine tune it to make it exactly how you want! Also a pretty fun hobby most times, minus the days you're just exhausted and want takeout.

Just had a couple Costco-sized hot dogs from the foreman grill on hoagie buns with sauerkraut and spicy mustard.

Whenever something starts getting old in the fridge and needs to be used right away, it's time to get out the Instant Pot and make soup. My bowels really don't like it when I make soup with wilting salad mix, but it's better than tossing them.
