Yeah, but then Commodore went bankrupt and Amiga users had to switch to Mac or PC

That game cheated.

No joke. On the higher difficulties it moved twice or made illegal moves. I uninstalled it and never looked back.

I don't see how you can modify Chess to make it better.

what do you mean man?? they modified chess to 'speed chess' because the 'younger players' felt the need for there to be actual 'closure' 'end game' to the game of chess... it's like it's a RULE that some HAS to win and someone HAS to lose. no other outcomes can exist EVER.

and that's what is considered 'better' no diplomacy, take no prisoners, to the death...

and you wonder why 'speed chess' always ends up with practically an empty board when won.

I have never seen this before. And I didn't know about interplay until fallout 1 and 2

But I'm pretty sure I'd wanna turn off animations, to speed up gameplay.

Yeah... given how long it took a single pawn to kill another pawn. I would want animations off hardcore.

I had Battle Chess on the Amiga and wish I had played it more in the 90s instead of losing a few times to the computer and giving up never to load it up again. The animation quality was somewhere between Lemmings and Prince Of Persia with Monkey Island humour and my favourite was the Rook that turned in to a monster and gobbled down pieces. It was a well received gimmick similar to Shufflepuck Cafe which was released the same year as Battle Chess in 1988 and is another one that I could play for a few minutes but soon get bored and play something else. There were far too many great games to choose from to be playing chess or air hockey. Escape From Colditz or any Psygnosis game to name a few.
