Playstation or XBOX controller?
I have always used Sony controllers for PC and the truth is that with the last one I had for PS4 I suffered from drift of one of its joysticks.
The truth is that I do not know whether to continue buying Sony controllers in the future and pray that it goes well or try for the first time with the XBOX, both official brand by the way.

What do you think about this or do you know any brand outside the official ones that make good controllers at a good price?

I never liked the triggers on the PS controller.

And using X to accelerate in Gran Turismo was horrid.

So I generally only use XBox controllers now.

I've tried a couple third-party brands and they weren't very good.

The plastic felt cheap, the pots were grainy and had larger dead zones, and the buttons were wobbly.

I use the switch pro controller instead. Good analog stick location, digital triggers, analog is useless in almost everything. And motion controls you can map to additional functions on steam.

Hybrid. PlayStation controller with Xbox buttons.

It always seemed to me that the Xbox had better support for their controllers, however if your more comfortable with the PS controller go for it. The 360 controllers worked flawlessly for me until their Bluetooth adapters died all in the same day, so I think the might of had a built in lifespan (it lasted a better part of a decade). The newest Xbox controller I had a problem with one of the Bumpers breaking on me within a year of getting it, so quality control is a little questionable.

Get something from 8BitDo. Highly recommend the Ultimate. Hall effect joysticks and triggers, so they'll never drift.

I use the PS5 controller for the games I play that support it. Most games support the Xbox controller, but I do not use it a lot because of its quality plus the dpad sucks when I play fighting games. So, the PS5 controller is good for me.

I totally agree with that of the materials of the controls of third party brands, right now I'm with one of them and although at the moment it does not give me problems, the quality and weight is very noticeable.

Xbox controllers are abomination.

That's what I've been doing until my controller failed, it makes me angry that the mapping of XBOX controllers has so much priority in games outside Sony ports but understandable for being from Microsoft.

After that now I have doubts about the quality of these controls, maybe it was just a coincidence but good to know.

That's what I've been looking at, it doesn't have bad reviews and the design seems pretty good, I'll keep it in mind.

I prefer the asymmetrical sticks on the Xbox controllers, but I'm quite comfortable with either.

I do miss the simplicity (and tradition) of "Start" and "Select" which Xbox replaced with some nonsensical symbols that I always forget which is which. Can we go back to Start and Select please and not use the window-on-window symbol and the triple-equals-sign symbol?

I used to use Playstation controllers for PC gaming, and in some rare circumstances I'll use a PS2 controller for stuff. But PS3/PS4 I've used for like 10 years. But, there's really no point anymore in putting a hyper focus on the d-pad. Sony has a decent d-pad and it's comfortable to use where it is, but if I am playing a game that requires it, chances are it's a game that doesn't use analog at all, and I'll use a Saturn type 2 or PS1 digital controller instead.

I wish the idea Nintendo was going with with the Wii U Pro controller, putting the right analog stick in a better location was more standardized, it makes a lot more sense with all the dual analog games out there, which is pretty much everything modern, and many of the face button functions getting moved to the back side of the controller anyway.

I've never been able to get comfortable with back-buttons on a controller.

PS by far.

XBox controllers are terrible.

Are we talking about the brand, or the layout?

I'd say the DS4 and DualSense are best for PC.

They are class devices and thanks to DS4Windows and SteamInput (not Micro$oft) work pretty much out the box... ignoring Windows' Bluetooth issues as a whole. They are also plug-and-play on Linux.
The trackpad works as a mousepad, which can come in handy.

The DualSense is also overall a very neat controller.

As for drift, there are Hall effect conversion kits, if you don't mind tinkering with the hardware a bit. But even the Edge doesn't ship with Hall effect sensors from the go. Though the Edge case is really nice even for the standard DualSense though, should you be able to get one separately.
