I'm skeptical about that. I could've sworn when I first saw this thread that the original post said something about Lara Croft prior to the edit. I'm thinking that 'cause when you responded to my post with:

They shouldn't change a female face model when it's a direct sequel to a game. That's like changing Samus to a man. Do it with new games or the first game in a reboot/remake.

I believe was thinking of commenting that Tomb Raider 2013 is a remake, not knowing you were referencing this whole Mary Jane controversy instead. It's possible I'm misremembering things though. We've had so many about how video game girls are allegedly getting fatter and uglier now, even though I'm just not seeing very many examples of that.

I.G.N. had to create a controversy because the Stellar Blade girl looks too sexy. There's nothing wrong with a fit woman that takes care of her body.

Eve isn't just a girl who takes care of her body though. I made a more thorough write-up about that in another thread regarding the subject of the I.G.N. article, but the key takeaway is that her proportions don't line up with Shin Jae-Eun's proportions[postimg.cc], who is the woman from which Shift-up claimed they scanned Eve's body.

They don't get to use "It's totally a realistic woman and we have proof!" as a defense if the evidence doesn't at least hold up to the scrutiny of matching up their bodies. Eve is totally a made-up fantasy dream-girl. Personally, I am fine with that, but I very much dislike misinformation and will correct it where possible.

An example of a fit woman who takes care of her body is Elizabeth Mackie: A.K.A. the original Sonya Blade[i.ytimg.com]. I am not so sure if you'd like her so much though since she is a bit more on the masculine side, for a woman.

Not that anybody was complaining about that in 1992.

Studios and devs really need to understand that games are supposed to be entertainment. It's fine to pack such a product with unrealistically aesthetically appealing things.

I truly believe that DOTA 2 would have been far more popular than it was, if they had made their characters look better. Not 90% ugly anthropomorphic monsters with sharp teeth and glowing eyes.
In this aspect, League of Legends did it right.

The problem is that:

As i've been understood by many People??

Video Games aren't even about Video Games anymore,
it's abut keeping you from playing them,
& keeping you Socializing instead of Gaming...

Your in the Forums, Instead Of A Video Game... ~_~

Whatever The Case People Think This Is,
It's Not What People Think It Is...

I Have Some Of The Best Titles In Gaming,
& I Can Gain Access To Them Anytime I Want,
Gore, Blood, Or Cartoony Party Whatever,
I'm Not Losing Out, & All My Games Function
On STEAM, GOG, & Offline Console Market...

None Of My Games Have Any Bugs, Or Problems...

I Just Want To Keep Them That Way,
& I Just Want To Keep New Games
That Way As Well, Bug Free, & Entertaining...

But I Know New Games Are Full Of Problems...

So We Can Argue & Fight Over This For Decades??
While My Entertainment Doesn't Change,
Because I Have It Protected From The Industry Already...

Or We Can Go Back To The Idea
That People Just Sht Fk Up & Just Leave
Each Other Alone, & We Stop The Arguing,
Because The Argument Is Dum...

It's An Argument About Nothing...

Pronouns Have Existed Forever In America,
That Don't Mean I'm Gonna Address Your Pronouns,
I Address Everyone With, A Greeting, Not By Title, Or Name...

If That Bothers People, Don't Confront Me,
& Don't Pick Fights With Me, & Don't Try
Your Hardest To Strike A Conversation With Me...

We Go Our Separate Ways, & Your Pronouns Are Safe...

Also, If Me Being A White Person Is Sooo Bad
For Woke People & Cancel Culture??

Then Why Are They Sooo Up In My Face To Start With??

Wouldn't They Wanna Stay Away From Me,
Because I Don't Know, Maybe, Cause I'm White??

If White Bothers People Sooo Bad,
Why Do They Fantasize About It Sooo Badly
& So Much As If They Are In Love With It??

If White People Are Sooo Bad & Sooo Hated,
Then Why Do People Overly Plague Their Minds
With This Fantasy About White People At All??

I Think The Reality Is, They Hate White People
Soo Much, But Deep Down They Know White People
Are Not The Bad They Think White People Are,
& Deep Down, They Attack White People Just
Simply, Because Deep Down They Have No One,
Their Lonely, & Their Life Sucks, & It Bothers Them...

I Think People Obsess With White People,
Because Deep Down They Want To Be White People,
They Want To Be Part Of Our Culture, & Be Noticed,
But They Are Too Shy, & Too Embarassed To Admit It...

I Think Deep Down, People Don't Really Hate White People,
They Push All This Hate Around, Because They Don't Know
How To Socialize, & Be Social With People...

I Think This Whole Thing Is Just People
Wanting To Be Noticed, & Wanting To Be
Out There, & Wanting Others To Notice Them, Too

I Think All Of What I Said Above Is Just Garbage,
& People Are Stupid To Claim White People Are
Privilaged, Or Harmful, Or Whatever They Call It
Today... I Think People Just Need To Get A Life,
& Stop The Bullcrap, Because They Are Morons,
& All This Hateful Disgust Is Just Stupid...

I Think Whatever People Think Of All This,
None Of It Ever Matters, Because At The
End Of The Day, If I Disappear From Existance,
What Will My Disappearance Mean Or
Matter To Any Of You Anyways??

But, But, But You Want Me To Change,
Or You Want To Change Me??

I'm Not Changing Period, So Go Suck It Up, ~_~

Life Moves On, Just Get Over It...

But, But The Bank Market, & America Is Crumbling,
My Town Has No Crime, My Town Doesn't Cater
To Stupidity, & If I Wanted To Be Rich, I Could Be
Rich Tomorrow, I'm Just Choosing Not To, Because
Being Rich Is For Rich People Who Have Poor Mental Illness...

They Ruined Culture...

What Culture?? My Culture Is Doing Just Fine... ~_~

The Video Game Crash...

What Crash?? I'm Still Gaming With Amazing Titles,
I Have Even Just Picked Up 4 New Games,
All Fantastically From Like 2008 Or Something...

The Holywood Crash...

What Holywood Crash?? I'm Still Enjoying Movies
Just As I Ever Did Before, & I See Movies All
The Time On Physical Media, & I Even See New
Movies Once In A While As Well From Like 70's
80's & 90's, Possibly 2010, But Hey, Still New Movies...

I Mean The World Is Treating It Like Our Lives
Are About As Sht As They Claim It Is??

I Just Picked Up (3) 7.2 Surround Sound Recievers,
With House Speakers, & I'm Still Enjoying Loads Of Music...

People Are Freaking Out Because Grocery Stores
Are Loaded With Broken Crap, & The Economy
Is Going To Crap??

I Practically Live For Free, I Don't Get Awesome
Stuff From The Grocery Store, It's All Garbage,
I Take Advantage Of The Stupid People Instead...

You Want To Make The World Into Something??
Try Doing It Respectfully With People,
Instead Of Treating Them Like Garbage,
& Maybe, Just Maybe The Soo Called
Privilage People See In White People
Will Stop Being A Fantasy In Their Minds
All Along, & People Will See That It Doesn't Exist...

Instead Of Trying To Destroy Someone,
Beating Them Down Into Da Crapper,
Try Being Something Your Self, & Be Someone...

Instead Of Looking Down On Someone,
Try Partnering With Them, You Might Just
Learn Something, & They Might Learn
Something From You...

Life Is All About How You Go About It...

You Can Either Be A Hateful Jack Azs,
Or You Can Be A Lovable Happy Nuckle Head,
Whatever You Are, & Whatever You Present
Life It's Self??

Using Power Of Hate Is Easy,
Anyone Can Do It, & It's Not Impressive At All...

Having Power Of Hate & Being A Dangerous Person,
& Refusing & Actually Not To Use The Power
To Harm Others, & Actually Do Good Things For
Them With That Power??

Is A Far More Impressive Experience Into Power...
Because Having Power, & Not Using It,
Is A Lot Harder Then It Looks,
& Not Using It For Bad Behavior,
Makes You Better Because Of This...

Topics Of Socializm, Topics Of Well What If
The Entire World Was Poor??

Why Not Just Make The Whole World Rich,
Instead, Why Not Just Let The Whole World
Experience Life Without Politics Of Hate??

Why Send Everyone Into Poor-Ville??

Why Not Actually Use That Power To Do Something Good With It??

Poverty Sucks Arzs, & People Are Stupid
To Think That Is Better For Everyone,
Because It Really Isn't, & It's All Negative...

Yes, If Woke People Are Pissed Off At
How Many People Hate Them, Just
Wait Till Poverty Kicks In, & People
Really Start Fueling The Fire Of Hate
Wokism Then, & See If The Ideology
Of Wokism Is Still A Favorable One
After Poverty Hits, Especially When
People Start Writing Messages In Blood,
& Hate Crimes Against Woke Peope
Start Becoming A Huge Popularity, ~_~

Stop The Hate Before Things Are Too Far Too Late...

We Can Do This?? We Can Turn Things Around,
But People Actually Have To Do Something To
Make It Happen...

Again, I'm Not Bothered, Cause I Got Pleanty
Of Life Still Around That I'm Not In A Bad Situation,
But If Your Struggling In Life??

I Don't Care Democrat, Republican, Minority,
Woke People, Whatever You Are, Other Countries??

You Have More Power To Take Control,
Then Your Own Government Has On You...

Your Mind Is The Only Thing Stopping You...

The Mind Control They Have On You,
& The Struggle To Convince Yourselves
That You Can't Do Anythng, When Reality
is That You Repo Houses, You Run Military,
You Run Towns, You Run Stores, & You
Engage In Your Community... The Government
Can't Do Anything Without You, & Their Mind
Control Over You, Is Exactly How You Are Losing...

This Same Statement Can Be Said
To Your Own Towm's People, Too...

If Your Town Wants This?? Fk 'Em,
Find A Town That Will Support You,
Or Run Your Store Your Way, &
Show Your Town How To Crush
Govermental Control, & Beat Corruption...

Whatever It Is??

Have A Nice Night...

IGN is really complaining because the body model doesn't match up to reality, really? It's a video game character. Who cares if it's realistic? The woke care because it doesn't match reality and it's not a role model for women. The artists have the choice to make their characters any way they want, not what a group of women want.

IGN already edited the article to not have the woke BS, so you wouldn't be reading the original article anyway.
It's not that hard to find the article

It is [Stellar Blade Preview: Shock and Awe], and here is the earliest archive[web.archive.org] from The Wayback Machine.

Further verification can be provided by this archive from Archive Today[archive.is], just in case ethically bankrupt conspirators start using the wayback machine to try and gaslight the public (that'd really be the easiest way to do it).

It's in french though, and purportedly I.G.N. France has issued a statement to the effect that they edited the article for people who don't know france using the wayback machine and people who understand french but are disingenuously misrepresenting the article.

This is a link to the translation of the wayback machine text[www.machinetranslation.com], which I provide because I assume on this section of the forum, most of us can't read french and because Google Translate does not want to play nicely with the archival websites for some reason. Also, finally, for those same reasons, here is the translation of the archive today text[www.machinetranslation.com] to verify. Looks about the same to me.

The key sources of controversy are these excerpts:

Mankind has been driven from Earth by nasty aliens, and it's time to take matters into our own hands and reclaim what's left of our good old planet. That's why Eve and her squad are sent in: to take on some nasty aliens, but with extraordinary class, a fearsome sword and... a skin-tight outfit? That's the promise of Stellar Blade, the next big PlayStation 5 exclusive we were able to test.

The game's design, and in particular that of its characters, highlights an obvious bias. We're going to beat up aliens, but if we can do it while pleasing these gentlemen's eyes, that's a bonus. And the result isn't exactly a success. It's nothing new, and other games have chosen to highlight the assets of their female characters, but where a Bayonetta stands out thanks to her iconic character design, or a 2B from Nier Automata inspires an entire generation of cosplayers, Eve from Stellar Blade is just bland. A doll sexualized by someone who's never seen a woman.

Those may vary slightly from the versions other people quoted, since these are Deep-L translations rather than Google translations.

Another interesting excerpt that I didn't see in the youtube video I saw don't show you is this:

A skin-tight jumpsuit showing off absurd proportions, heels perfect for going to war, a ponytail so long they're forced to put an option to shorten it in the settings (true), nothing fits. Fortunately, the animation is on point, and Eve moves with a grace and style that makes up for it, but Shin Jae-eun, the poor Korean model who serves as the character's model, is lost under layers of clumsy plastic modifications that render her unrecognizable, both in body and face.
Eve executes all the dodges and parries you order her to with frightening precision, for instantly satisfying combat.

It's kind of disingenuous to leave that out 'cause it means reviewer Par Ben Ossola already knew the character was based on a model in the first place and was engaging in some ironic and sarcastic japing.

Well, I mean you are asking who cares, while explaining who and why so I don't know why you seem so surprised. Also, be careful with the "we have no right to complain what developers want to do" sword: It's double sided, and if they want to make the characters ugly for whatever reason, that's just as much their right. Plus if I.G.N. is a politically correct organization, why doubt that they would issue a politically correct complaint? Besides, complaining about whether developers make girls too pretty or too ugly are just two flip sides of the same coin. Either everybody has the right to give their input on what the devs. should do with their game, or nobody does.

Plus it's kind of right there in that third excerpt I gave.

Given that most video game developers make their games to appease the player base rather than as a vanity project I'd lean more towards everybody has the right to give their input myself. Most especially so for somebody who is a video game reviewer by trade, given that it is kind of his job to give his opinion on matters.

Plus to me the key takeaway from the review doesn't seem to be so much that Eve's way too pretty and that's a bad thing in and of itself, so much as this is a well-made if not mediocre safe-by-the-numbers game with a generic safe-by-the-numbers sexy female protagonist who does hold up to the bar of exceptional design set by her contemporary rivals, and the reviewer prefer if she were some goth chick clad up in an all-black outfit. I don't really see the point of exemplifying 2B or Bayonetta in particular otherwise, since those are both quite attractive character designs (even if Bayonetta isn't exactly my type). You'd think one of the uglified protagonists would be exemplified otherwise, especially since today's prudes lack the tact to try and subvert such an expectation.

Me? Nah, I didn't forget. I considered mentioning it but I figured it didn't really have anything to do with what i had to say since I was commenting upon the nature of (what as far as anybody can tell is) the original unedited article.

An unapologetic apology[boundingintocomics.com] which blames the readership for misunderstanding or misconstruing what was said, and was likely made for the sake of protecting the commercial interests of the broader publication after the fact has little to do with my point. The edit seems to be minimal and only makes more of what was already implied more express anyway insofar as I can tell.

If there was any point in the conversation where it would've been most natural to include that the article was edited to make an apology, it would've been when you were pointing out that an edit was made in the first place, so it really sounds more like something you forgot to be honest.
