There criminals who need stopping:steammocking:

Ok, on a serious note, I don't see any problems with data miners. If a developer releases unknown future content in a update then it's on the developer. The developer knows full well people will data mine the files to see what is stuff is coming to the game.

This happens on fallout 76, the community has dedicated people who data mine the games files and release what content is coming further down the line

Not that kind of dataminer. I'm referring to the kind which harvests personal information of people. Especially in the context of large companies which do so and make it their business.
Kind of hard to avoid at this point when every other major corporation is selling your information to other companies or scam organizations. Even Amazon host ads on sketchy sites - because money. They are no better just because they are bigger. How do you think they got there?

If you put your information out into the open web, then it is fair game.

My opinion is "low." Not because of what they do, but for the uses their product is put to. They know, yet still sell it...

That's only as far as publicly available info is used. If they cross-the-line, they're dogpoop level.

This is a shadowy world. The more one discovers, the darker it gets. It doesn't serve dataminers well for their practices to be exposed to the public eye.

I think that the managing partners of such companies should submit all their own private data, use, and travel habits, into the data streams they sell... But, you know, I bet that has never happened.

Noe: I am not in favor of "customer information is a business product and can be sold separately" legal rulings. This is a difficult problem that needs to be solved.

For instance, customer information is included when a business is sold to someone else, so it is legally an "asset." I have no issue with that. I do have issue with, for example, an online pet food, toy, and supply company selling their customer data to a miner who then sells it to a collator who then offers it as a target product so a private investigator can find someone for a client and then that client is an ex-husband who wants to harass his ex-wife... or worse. Oh, the tangled web we weave when first we look to sell other people's privacy.

However, if your physician is retiring, it actually helps you when they sell their practice's patient list to qualified physicians that can then take you into their practice. (US, but even that practice is kind of rare these days as Health Insurance companies are the decision-makers.

Wasting their time. I'm an open book.

Depends what the data is.

Collecting data about applications, and how its running on different hardware, is fine.

Collecting data on PEOPLE, is not ok and we need significantly stronger regulations on it.

i dont think data collection is anonymous so i got to delete all my accounts and now nothing bothers me anymore, seems most of it is used by corrupt officials that is they see what they perhaps themselves are like inside.

Oh I see, sorry I was mistaken. I believe that kind of data mining should be made illegal.

Like pretty much everything, I used to care, but I don't anymore. This world is good for a laugh to break up the tears, that about it.
