Gray Fox's death at the end of MGS *almost* made me shed a manly tear.
Honestly, I have no reason to cry over a character's death.
They never died because they never existed.
After you defeat Nyx, the game skips ahead to March 3rd, AKA Graduation Day, where all of the 4th year students, well, graduate. Everybody seems to have forgotten about The Dark Hour and all of the hardships and things you went through together.
Before the graduation ceremony, you go around the school, talking with your various Social Links (for those who don't know, Social Links are characters that you've developed relationships with and become friends with) about what they've been doing, how you've helped them, and how they've helped you. This part really brings a conclusion to all of the side plots in the game IMO.
Once you've caught up with all of your Social Links and walked around the school for a bit, you head up to the roof of your school, where you find your friend, Aigis, sitting on a bench.
The game then cuts to a cutscene of Mitsuru Kirijo's graduation speech, where she remembers what happened before Nyx was defeated. One by one, all of your party members remember what went down and decide to go meet you on the roof.
Back to the roof, you are lying down, your head resting on Aigis' lap. She tells you how grateful she is for what you've done, and that you helped her find her purpose in life, as well as taught her what it meant to "live". The game then tells you that your eyelids feel heavy, and you close them.
The song "Kimi no Kioku" (Memories of You in English) starts to play, and the credits roll. At the end of the credits, you see all of your party members arrive at the roof just as your soul slips away from your body. Aigis looks up at them and smiles while tears of both joy and sorrow fall down her face.
WELL, that was long. Very long. There you have it, the ending of Persona 3. To get the full effect, play the game all the way through, specifically the remake, Persona 3 FES.
